I was diagnosed 3 years ago with PID and
lately as in the past 3 weeks I have had
chronic lower abdominal pain, painful
urination, pain during and after sex with
my husband. I dont know what to do because
nobody will take me seriously. My husband
works all the time and refuses to take me
to the emergency room. I'm just really
afraid and confused as of how I got this
disease?!? I have never had any kind of
std's what-so-ever, but yet every website
that I look up says its caused by some
other STD..how is this possible? And why
am I hurting so bad? I literally have to
lay in one place for hours after sex due
to the pain and my lower abdomen is so
tender to the touch that I wont let anyone
not even my husband near me. Even after
the pain subsides I have to walk slower,
and my lower back hurts constantly. I have
no health insurance and no drivers
license, and because I travel with my
husband due to his job I have no regular
doctor. I'm really afraid and just would
like my questions answered
Pelvic inflammatory disease (PID) is a
common term for identifying infection of
any of the inner genital organs (vagina,
cervix, uterus, oviducts, ovaries), the
tissue that surrounds them (parametrium)
and/or the pelvic peritoneum. PID can be
due to an exogenous infection or an
endogenous infection. Exogenous infections
are usually sexually transmitted diseases
(STDs). The most common exogenous
infections include Chlamydia and
Gonorrhoea. Endogenous infections are
caused by bacteria that can be normally
found in the vagina (Staphylococcus,
Streptococcus, Escherichia coli, Proteus,
Klebsiella, Gardnarella vaginals…) but
appear during conditions when local
immunity has decreased and these bacteria
can cause infection.
Symptoms of PID depend upon the
localisation and type of the infection.
You HAVE TO visit a gynaecologist to
perform a physical examination, ultrasound
scan, Pap-test, microbiological
examination, standard blood analyses, etc.
and receive an informed consultation.
