Hey for English I'm supposed to interview
three people on what America is. It's
gotta be all patriotic and mushy and crap
for brownie points. Can anyone help me
out? What is America to you?

America to me, is the opportunity to live
the way I want to live, and be the person
I want to be. We are free to live and love
and worship the way we chose. We can speak
our minds without fear. Not many other
countries can claim these things.

I'm Canadian, but I've always loved the
UNITY of Americans. You guys are a melting
pot...no matter where you come from,
you're American as soon as you hit the
ground. Go ask any Canadian what
nationality they are, and I swear, 9 out
of 10 will say whatever country they are
from, or even their parents or
grandparents!! We're a mosaic, and we
don't have that unity. It sucks sometimes.
The attempted separation of Quebec is an
example of that.

Haha, no problem.
I SWEAR, first time I set foot in the US,
I think it was Seattle? I swear I felt
American. I stayed for, like, three days,
and I came home wearing a shirt with the
American flag on it.
I can recite the Pledge of Alleigiance in
my sleep!
Ahahaha, I'm such a freak.

Can you back that up Suzy. If you make a
statement like that you need to be able to
tell us how you would do it differently.
Don't our government when you aren't going
to try and do something about what you
think is bad.
BTW- what is so bad. The tax cuts that we
have gotten? Do you not like our free
speech? Is it so horrible that we can own
land? What about the fact that anyone can
become rich in this country, All it takes
is a little sweat and some brains. Do you
not like the fact that our country has
more rights than any other country. We
aren't accountable to the government is
that what is wrong? Is it bad that we have
gun rights and privacy rights(although I
will concede that those are getting fewer
but not as bad as Europe or Asia)?
Honestly, I think that compared to most
countries we have it pretty darn good.
Maybe because you haven't gotten all the
way through high school and you haven't
done constitution yet you don't realize
all that goes into running our government.
I don't think that you would last one day!
I know that I wouldn't last a single hour
as president. That is THE most stressful
job there is.
America's government is the only true
democracy left. Every other government has
turned into a socialist nation! I have
talked to my friends from Canada and they
are the ones that say, yes, Canada is a
Socialist nation. Maybe you are a
socialist. If you know what that means.
I am not trying to totally flame you Suzy,
but if you are going to say something like
that please wait till you can do something
about it or at least vote.
I am not going to deny your right of free
speech though. Our constitution demands
that you have it.

Why did Seattle feel so American? I often
go to Seattle and I wonder what would make
it so American...

I like and dislike America. I like it for
all the above reasons but I don't like
that the gov't hides things from us or
doesn't completely tell the truth. I
understand there could be chaos but they
allow people to die and then allow them to
think our gov't is caca for not at least
warning us about anything. They knew what
was going on with 911. I don't trust
them.
I also hate how they let people on welfare
who only want to spend thier $$$ on drugs
and people that actually need it cannot
afford it. I hate how you have to get paid
more than $12 an hour to live. . .(not
sure if that is everywhere but. . .)

Some people just like to make themselves
feel intelligent by pretending that they
know things that they really don't have a
clue about. A little sad eh?

I understand that it is hard that they
don't tell us things but it is kinda like
parenting. My parents never talked about
money problems or people being murdered or
raped in front of us kids. They knew that
we would overreact if we knew everything
that we going on. But yeah, it is
difficult to totally gauge things when you
don't know the whole story. And yeas, they
had received threats about 9/11 but they
received multiple threats everyday about
other places and times. If they shut
everything down whenever they got a threat
we could do nothing. I know for a fact
that here in Chicago they constantly
receive threats about Sears Tower being
attacked. You must concede that they have
gotten better about national security
though.
I hate the fact that they give money to
people who don't use it the way they
should. However, I also realize that we
don't live in a perfect society and it
would be difficult for them to know who is
clean and who isn't. It would look like
discrimination if they turned down a
recovering addict because they thought
that person might buy drugs. Honestly, I
don't like welfare at all. It does help
people who need it but mostly it hinders
people from bettering themselves.

I just passed govt. class, it was pretty
interesting.
I also just got done reading the book
"Skinny B*tch"
It talks a lot about the govt, you should
read it.
Talks about the fda or something & how
they have really high standards about
what's allowed to go into our food, so
because of that a lot of nasty crap gets
put in there. It's pretty disgusting.
I agree that we have it a lot better than
other countries though and for that I am
very greatful =)

I understand what your
saying, I'd just rather have been told. I
know they get threats, but they had PROOF
that it was going to happen. Well, I got
this from watching the movie united 93. I
wanted to cry after watching that movie.
And about the drug thing, A recovering
drug addict is one thing. People using the
gov't so they CAN go out and buy drugs is
another. I mean, they should have a social
worker drop in on them, or have them show
what their money was used for (ie:
receipts and such).

Those social workers cost money. More
money, more money, more money. They are
'given' a very small amount of money and
an EBT card that is their foodstamps. They
cannot get beer, cigarettes or inedible
things with their foodstamp card.

sorry i wasnt on much last night kristen
was constipated and had a screaming fit
why does the govt suck? ditto to what
melissa said
why do they have to hide stuff? why are we
fighting a war that doesnt even need to
exist? why are the school systems the way
they are? why is so much of america in
poverty? why are our border systems so
screwed up? why did they lie about 911?
why did mr rockafeller state that he KNEW
it was going to happen 11 months
BEFORE it actually did? why is our justice
system so screwed up?
and yeah actually i have been through both
us govt and debate class already. i took
it in 10th grade. also i have 2 credits
left before i finish homeschooling.
honestly i think running this country is
one of the hardest jobs in the entire
world. i dont think its easy. however
thats not going to make me feel bad about
it when they hid things so serious from us
that killed so many people and tore so
many families apart. and its STILL tearing
so many families apart.
