Colon abdominal pain and discomfort in lower right area Posted: 01-25-08 16:55pm
Hi,
I've read some of the titles that seem
similar to my symptoms, but nothing seemed
to quite fit.
I've been having pain and discomfort in my
lower right abdomen and colon area. There
has been some feeling of pressure and some
sharp pain as well as some dull and a few
times prickly pain. It is increased when I
have gas bubbles passing through that
area. I'll get the pain and then alittle
while later, I emit the gas bubble
externally. The other times I get the pain
is when I'm stressed, believe it or not.
I've prodded around in that area and
discovered that while I'm waiting for a
bowel movement, a section of colon sticks
out a bit there. I laid down and pulled
in my tummy and it was larger on that side
than the other. I haven't seen any blood
or mucus in my stool. I have no family
history of colon cancer. I did give birth
almost a year ago. A few times I've had
shooting pain in the vaginal lip on that
side. I don't know if it's related or not.
I had a PET/CT scan done on almost my
entire body - with the exception of my
knees, lower legs and feet. They did see a
"lighting up" in my abdomen and said it
was probably just a bowel movement, though
sometimes that was linked to lesions that
could be benign or malignant. The
oncologist, holistic doctor, and
gastroenterologist didn't seem fazed by it
at all, though the holistic doctor said we
could do a colonoscopy just to make sure.
I got the feeling none of them thought it
was anything. I've had three CEA tests
come back within the normal range of 0-5,
though they went up from 2.0 last April,
to 4.6 in August, to 5.0 in October. So,
I'm befuddled. I keep having intermittent
sensations there - either pain or just
weird feelings of pressure just before gas
bubbles pass through. Could it have
anything to do with giving birth? I was
able, for a little while to push the bulge
of the colon over and it seemed to sink
down into a "proper" place. I'm wondering
if this qualifies for a $2250 bill from
the gastroenterologist (my deductible is
2500, unfortunately and Health Net is
raising my monthly premium in March, 08
from $180 a month to $377 a month - I
don't even know if a an OVER 100% increase
like that is legal) One more thing I feel
I need to mention is that a year and a
half ago I was diagnosed with metastatic
breast cancer while being pregnant. Is it
possible for breast cancer to go to the
colon?
Oh, also, I've tried several ways of
trying to clear what might be a "blocked"
area in my colon. None of them has helped
the symptoms except maybe the colon that
stuck out seems to do that less now. I
tried doing enemas, mild colon cleansing
herbs, prune juice, psyllium husk powder
with lots of water, and aloe vera juice.
Any more suggestions?
Thanks!

Metastatic breast cancer is the most
advanced stage of breast cancer and has
the potential to spread to almost any
region of the body, usually bones, liver
and lungs.
Have you been examined for distant
metastasis?
A rise in the CEA level indicates the need
to search more fully for a recurrence of
cancer, but can also be elevated in a
number of benign conditions.
Do you have constipation?
Have you experienced sensation of strange
smell?

Hi, Yes I've been checked for metastases
with a PET/CT scan. There was nothing in
bones, lungs, or liver. It showed
something in the breasts and colon areas.
I've had a breast MRI that showed nothing.
I was scheduled for a colonoscopy, but I
had to cancel it due to family illness. I
will reschedule it if you think it is
necessary. No, I haven't had constipation
or experienced any strange smells that I
can recall. Thanks for your interest and
response.

Oh, a couple more questions to clarify Posted: 02-04-08 07:24am
Hi MandMs, I thought of some things I
forgot to say. I generally have at least
one bowel movement a day that is not hard
to eliminate. Also, on the PET/CT scan
report, the radiologist said he thought
the abdominal results were likely just a
bowel movement. The oncologist then
dismissed it as that because I have no
family history of colon cancer and the
breast MRI came out fine. The holistic
doctor didn't seem concerned because the
CEA was still within the normal range and
they consider 0-10 normal for smokers.
Even the gastroenterologist didn't seem
all that concerned either. I was surprised
by this since I read online that having
one type of cancer can increase the risk
of getting a problem in the colon area. Is
this only slightly increased over the
average person who has no family history
of colon issues? What do you think of the
guaiac home tests? I also read about some
genetic tests they do on the fecal matter.
What do you think of that one? Is there
another one besides the colonoscopy that
you think would be good to do instead?
