palilalia in bp and command hallucinations Posted: 01-27-08 10:50am
Has anyone experienced palilalia with BPD?
My son has had moments where he will
repeat the last few words of something he
said over 3 or 4 times. Usually it is said
in a near whisper, as if speaking to
himself. He has BPD. Is this associated
with OCD or just another twist with BPD?
My son is hearing a "good" voice and a
"creepy" voice. The good voice tells him
to do the right thing and the creepy voice
tells him to things that are wrong. It is
heard in his head and he says it is not
his own voice. Is this an auditory command
hallucination? What area of the brain is
this type of material generated from?
Thanks!

Honestly, it seems like there is something
else going on here. What are his othe
symptoms? Paralalia, at least I thought,
is common in schizophrenia. Also, if he is
having hallucinations, (although possible
in bpd) it seems like these together might
be suggesting something else. Of course,
I'm not saying he has schizophrenia, just
perhaps another aspect to his illness that
hasn't been considered. You should discuss
this with his doctor.
From what I remember, auditory
hallucinations seem to come from Broca's
area (which you could google), at least in
patients with schizophrenia. It involved
in speech and language processing. But the
brain is so complicated it's always hard
to tell exactly where something comes
from, it's all connected.

Thanks Georgia59. I really don't know what
to make of these symptoms. He is too young
to be showing signs of schizophrenia. I
did speak to his doc and we increased the
risperdal and the voices quit.
Interesting.
I appreciate your input. I am interested
in why these symptoms occur and where they
are generated from.
