baby becoming very needy and fussy Posted: 01-27-08 12:15pm
My baby boy is nearly 7 months and is
becoming very high maintenance lately...
He only wants to be entertained by mommy ,
and held by mommy. He wont sit & play,
sometimes I can't even go to the bathroom
because if I put him down he begins to
have a meltdown. He's never been like this
& only seems to do it when he's at home
with me. He's starting to learn to sit on
his own but I'm worried he'll never learn
'cause he does not want to do anything if
mommy isn't there ... Is this just a stage
they go through, I'm tired & need
answers??!

So sorry no one has answered your post
before!
This is indeed a stage that many babies
will go through. It's ok to hold him and
give him that sense of security that he
really needs to feel at this point. But
you do have to live your life too and he
does have to learn that he can't have you
ALL the time. Using the bathroom or doing
necessary things like cooking dinner,
taking a shower, and some simple chores
are going to have to be done.
He is going to cry when you do these
things, but before you do it, talk to him
as if he knew what you were saying....tell
him that you need to put him down to do
one little thing and you will be right
back, or you will have to put him down,
but he can sit and watch mommy. Be
reassuring that you are going to be there
and are still going to provide him with
the security he needs even when you are
not holding him.
Playing lots of games of peek-a-boo will
help him realize that even tho you are not
able to be seen you are still there.

Thank you mominashoe,
First of all thank you for the reply, I
had nearly forotten I posted in the first
place. My son, Zeyden is much better now.
I think he might have been teething real
bad before because he's broken out with
three new teeth since I last visited this
site... He's not only sitting on his own
now, but he's also crawling too, &
seems to want to stand alot. I've never
been prouder before now. I know there are
many more moments of pride to come, but
seing my little baby boy do things on his
own & slowly becoming a little man ,
puts a lump in my throat.
As far as doing the simple chores around
the house without always having to hold
him is concerned; I think playing
peak-a-boo was an excellent suggestions,
he loves it and just lights up. Sure there
are moments when he still only wants
mommy, however I think now I no longer
feel that guilt of not picking him up
emmediately as I once did...
It's all patience & learning for the
both of us!!!!!
Sincerely, zeyden Liam &
his mama xoxo
