severe sinus pain under eye and in jaw Posted: 01-27-08 18:36pm
About once or twice a year, it's happening
right now, I get this escrusatingly
terrible pain in my sinus area. It is
usually on the right side, under my eye
and usually goes all the way to my ear,
temple, upper head. Many times it is also
in both upper and lower jaw and teeth I
have even felt it down the side of my
neck.
Here's the kicker. It only happens at
night, usually right after going to sleep.
I cannot lay down at night. I stay up
until 3 or 4 in the morning and can
usually then go to bed without pain. I can
lay down in the day with no pain.
Antibiotics do no good at all, or advil,
aspirin etc. Sinus medicine rarely helps.
The only thing I can do when it hits is
drink hot liquids making contact with the
roof of my mouth, usually 2 cups of hot
tea will relief the pain. Heat from a hot
cup or hot pack or heating pad will
sometimes help too.
The pain cannot be likened to anything
I've ever felt including migraine. It's
like a ordinary sinus headache times 10.
If it lasted more than a short time I
would go mad. It hurts so bad I cannot
even cry--until after.
It happens every night for about 2 weeks.
Last spring it was 3 weeks and right now
I'm on about day 10.
I do have some congestion sometimes and I
do have allergies. But I don't have
anything like a cold.
It seemed to begin about 5 or 6 years ago
when I had the flu.
Does anyone else have anything like this?
I have read about cluster headaches and
sinus, but I'm really confused as to which
it is. Naturally I've seen my doctor, but
he's clueless too.

I'm not a doctor, but from everything I've
read about migraines and sinus infection
(I've suffer from both), it does sound
like cluster headaches.
Has your doctor done anything else to find
out if it's a sinus problem?
I really think you should see your doctor
about it again. Don't let them fobb you
off. Press the point that the pain is
unbearable. And if they don't, carefully
suggest having a head scan, as this will
often show up problems with the sinuses.
If they are cluster headaches, as you
probably know there's not much that can be
done to properly treat them. But there's
no point assuming that they are until more
investigation is done. If you're in doubt,
keep talking to your doctor. Good luck,
please let me know what happens.

Sinus or cluster Posted: 02-05-08 22:33pm
I saw a sinus specialist Friday and he
really feels it's cluster headaches. He
looked into my sinuses and said they look
good. He wants to be absolutely sure it's
not sinus before referring me to a
neurologist. Today I had a CT, I don't
know the results yet. He did prescribe
something for the pain thank God, and so
far I've been sleeping through the night.
It's such a blessing to be able to lay
down and go to sleep at night (knock on
wood).
I keep thinking that the pain will find
some way to break through the medication's
defenses. I think the pain has made me a
little paranoid. There are some
medications that are suppose to help and
may prevent the cluster headaches. So far
my headaches are acute and not chronic so
I don't have to fight them all the time. I
so, so hope they don't become chronic.
This "spell" has lasted about 3 weeks now.

I have just started to have this pain you
are having. Ccan you let me know what
your CT showed?
I was given an antibiotic 875mg twice a
day for a sinus infection this is about
gone but the pain is still here.
