6-week post-partum checkup on the 1st

We're going to talk about birth control then. I really don't want to get on the pill again, and I don't want anything semi-permanent like an IUD (which isn't covered under my insurance anyways.) but I'm not totally sure what other types of birth control there is and what the side effects are. I kinda want to get the shot, but I heard it makes you gain weight? As shallow as it is, I just spent 9 months gaining weight, I want to enjoy being skinny again, thankyouverymuch.

So what do you girls recommend? What are you on, what have you tried? What side effects are possible and which ones have you experienced?

I've been on ortho lo and depo. I can honesty say both are wonderful! I haven't gained weight on either of them. Ortho might have improved my acne and depo might have made it worse, but I don't really know because I've never had a good cleaning schedule.

Thanks girls... I'm going to make a list of bc that people have liked and talk about all of them with my doc.

you put the nuva ring in yourself for 3 weeks then take it out the week of your period
Smile then put it back in yourself.

I have heard a lot of good things about the nuvaring, but if you get queasy than it wouldn't be the best...I have met three people that use it and have yet to gain weight...They all have lost weight really easily on it. And without any side effects. My friend is heavy set, and in the past 4 months she has lost 30 pounds...really easily...My cousin went on it after she stopped breastfeeding, and she lost all her baby weight plus an extra ten poundes...Another friend gained weight on the pill, and lost weight quickly when switching to the ring...

Might want to try it...At least give it a shot....

I've been on the depo. Which I have said before I loved it! I had to change because of a problem I was having. Then I was on the patch. I liked not having to remember everyday with that. But yet again I was still having the same problem. Then I tried the ring but was getting very frusterated with my problem and only used it for a month. I think they are all very good and easy to maintain. I don't know if I gained weight on any of them but I must say it was hard to lose weight on the depo. But I nursed and it was great for that. Plus no peroids! I don't know personally about IUD or know anyone who as used it. Good luck!

I have used depo and it was great for 4 years. During the shot I never had a period and I didnt have to remember a pill everyday. I never had to worry much.

Just once you get off the side effects can get bad. I bled for a whole month and it took about 8-9 months for my cycles to get back to normal and its hard to conceive within a year of being off of it.

But hey if it works for you then do it.

I'm currently "off" right now because I haven't gotten my next shot and it was due in december. I haven't actually bled yet. I did spot once during the day when I was volunteering with my mom at her school, but it went away in about 2 hours.
