fibromyalgia causing shoulder and neck pain Posted: 01-28-08 05:50am
hello. i have these pains in my shoulders,
shoulder blades and neck. my doctor told
me that i have fibromyalgia. he sent me to
a masseuse, physiotherapist and even gym
works. he gave me some meds for it like
mersyndol forte, but none helped. most
nights i would have headaches starting
from my right frontal section and will
spread all throughout my head. i wonder if
my headaches and shoulder pains are
connected. i'm suffering from these for 7
months now. i went to a pain specialist
and suggested that i have an ultrasound.
they found out that i have bursitis so
they injected me with cortisone. this
helped for a while but after a week the
pain came back. i really don't know what's
wrong. i am stressed out about my
condition because i can't function
normally. it's a bit depressing because
after working, i'd be really sore that i
can't do chores at home. i can't even play
with my daughter because the pain stops
me. i've been to three specialists but
none of them can't put a name on it or
explain to me what's happening.

Get an MRI. You may have a herniated disc
in your cervical spine. I have one in my
C4-C5 with the same symptoms. I also have
fibromyalgia, but the symptoms you
describe are the ones I have that are
disc-related. The treatment, if it's not
completely herniated, is a shot of
cortisone into the spine. Supposed to help
a lot. I wouldn't know, though; I can't
have cortisone or any type of steroid.
With fibromyalgia, the pain doctor I went
to said he could do nothing for me and
sent me on to a rheumatologist. If you
have fibromyalgia, this is the type of
doctor you should be seeing. I saw a spine
specialist about my back; he's the one
that ordered the MRI.
I can't work out like normal at a gym, but
I do get in as much swim time as I can at
our city's therapeutic center in their
huge, heated pool. I do a lot of
stretching and also daily heat and cold
therapy. Also, get plenty of sleep if you
have fibro--your body needs a chance to
heal every night.
