Nipple pain & breast cancer Posted: 01-28-08 06:13am
I am 44 years old and had a hysterectomy
aprox 4 years ago I am now experiencing
bruise like pain in my left nipple this is
been happening for 2-3 weeks previously to
this I was experiencing itchy sensation
around the nipple area. My grandfather (my
mothers farther) died of cancer early
seventies and my mothers sister was
diagnosed with non hodgkins disease a
number of years ago thankfully her
treatment was successful. should I be
concerned can this be an early sign of
breast cancer

A bruise on the nipple combined with pain
HAS TO be checked by a doctor. It
doesn’t sound serious, but only a
physical examination (inspection and
palpation) followed by an ultrasound
examination and mammography can confirm or
exclude some type of disorder of the
breast(s). Further, every woman over 40
should perform a mammography once a year.
To prevent possible tumors, cancer, or
health problems a self-examination in
front of the mirror should be performed
once in a month.
