TMJ treatment and cost Posted: 01-28-08 17:19pm
Ever since I can remember, I've been able
to pop both sides of my jaw. It's never
really been an issue until recently. I can
no longer pop the right side. I know this
should be a good thing but it's caused
more pain and problems that I didn't have
to deal with before. The right side of my
jaw always feels "tight"... like I should
be able to pop it but I can't. I also
notice a clicking or popping sound when I
chew on that side, and my right ear has
been very painful at times. I have a
dentist appt. on Feb. 15th, so I'll know
more then... but does this sound like TMJ
to anyone else? If so, what is the
treatment and/or cost of treatment? I do
have dental insurance but I'm not sure how
much of the treatment would be covered.
Any replies would be helpful. Thanks!

yes this sounds like tmd--poping your jaw
is not a good idea in any given
situation.
Just a heads up--be prepared to pay
everything out of pocket. Most dental and
medical insurances have tmj and anything
to do with tmj as an exclusion. befor you
do anytning check with the insurance
company.
Doctors are usually pretty good about
helping you out with a payment plan. the
cost really varies from doctor to doctor
state to state. If you need help finding a
good doctor let me know. I can help with
that. when you find a doctor, just call
the office and find out what their fees
are. if you need anything let me know. im
here to help.

Thanks, I really appreciate it. Most
insurance policies really don't cover
treatment? Wow. I'll definitely check with
my insurance.
I'll let you know what I find out from my
dentist!

Holy cow...
I hope the problems I have aren't that
costly. If you don't mind me asking, what
issues do you have?

well its a variety of things. My jaw is
too big for my head my teeth didnt touch.
poping, locking ,referred pain,
headaches--and the list goes on. if you
read other threads you will see that ive
had 3 surgeries as well as a ton of other
treatments. nmd might just help you to the
point that you never have to worry about
it at all. I still have problems but am
working to resolve them.
