40 Week Dr's Appt!
Posted: 01-28-08 19:09pm

So, me & Baron went to the Dr's today. He wanted to come with me, in case "something" were to happen... Rolling Eyes

The Dr came in and said "well, how ya feelin? You still waiting for "mother nature" to take her course? ::snicker::"
Mad I say "yup...sure am. Maybe you could sweep my membranes or something...but I'd be fine if you didn't..."
He said "yea, I'll sweep your membranes, but it's gonna be uncomfortable."
"whatever, I don't mind..."

So, as he's in there violating me, he starts talking about the induction process. He says "why are you so against induction? Are you scared that it's going to be TOO invasive or agressive of a process? Cuz I promise it's not."
And I said, "it's not that Doc, it's the chemicals that I don't want in me...that's ALL." Confused

He says "we start off with barely ANY meds, and if that's all you need to just kickstart your body into labor, that's all we'll do. But if you need more, we SLOOOWLY increase it..."
"Doc, really, I'm not about induction. ONLY if I'm about 10 days past my date...OR if there's something wrong."

"well, going past 41 weeks is just ASKING for trouble. I wouldn't induce until NEXT wednesday(because Tuesday is Mardi Gras), which would put you 8 days past your date. And hey, you might go in before...but I don't think that'll happen. I think you have "cervical scarring" from your first birth. I don't think you CAN go into labor on your own, and if you DO, I don't think your contractions will be strong enough, and you'll need assistance."

Confused "::sigh:: ok Doc...well we'll see what happens this week...."

I told him about my sinus problem not getting any better, and he prescribed me a nasal steriod to actually HEAL the problem, and not just cover it.
He wrote it AFTER he suggested Zicam spray along with the Afrin. And I was like "well is the Zicam gonna HEAL it, or COVER it?"

I personally think that if I had a midwife, as opposed to a Dr, she(imaginary midwife), would be like "oh, there's no problem, just go have sex, walk, squat, etc..." But the DOCTOR is like "hmmm, you must have cervical scarring, yadda yadda yadda!..."

Mreh, I'm just so OVER this Dr...

My due date is TOMORROWWWW!!!! yes How AWESOME!!!!

I'll be posting some belly pics tonight!!! Along with some parade picssss!!

You're a stronger woman than I am haha ^^ If I hit 40 weeks with this baby I'll be more than willing to be induced. All 3 of mine have been by induction, I went into full blown natural labor at 5 months with my oldest son, and then never again since.

Well hopefully this sweeping of the membrane thing works for you Smile If you were to go 10 days overdue wouldn't you be scared of the possibility of the baby swallowing meconium (sorry sp) or I heard something that your placenta can actually get old and cause the baby to not get enough nutrients.

When my son was born he was overdue.....they got my dates wrong....and the doctor said that he was actually losing weight in my belly because the placenta wasn't working as good.

I don't know, I know you definitely don't want to induce and i hope that you don't have to but I would just be a little worried about going that past my due date.

Good luck and I hope that the stuff he gave you makes you feel better:)

Ya know, that's the one thing that DOES bother me...the placenta getting old.

I don't think I would go PAST 10 days, but it's really the baby's decision! LOL!

I honestly didn't think I'd make it to today, I thought I'd have a baby by now. mreh,I guess she likes my belly!!!

I'd be 8 days past if he induced me next wednesday, and I think I'd be ok with that. I'd start to worry then...

I hope the meds work toooo!!!

Ya I didn't wanna say too much in case you thought that I was trying to push induction..because I'm not ..lol I was just thinking about the baby and the fact that there is always a chance that the dates could be off, you never know.

I am glad though that you would consider induction once you get to 8 days past.Just to be safe Smile Really I was induced for both my kids and it wasn't any worse than any other people's labors that started on their own.

I am sure that it will all work out in the end. I bet you are right about her wanting to wait until your better. She wants a happy and healthy momma when she makes her debut..LOL

yea, I totally think that if I make it past this week then induction would be my best option.

It's not the pain aspect I was worried about, it was just having the chemicals in me...but I need to do what's BEST for the baby!

Oh, and he said that if I went into labor after recently taking the Afrin(that you can only take twice daily), that taking an extra dose wouldn't hurt. Whatever I needed to do to be able to breathe would be fine! SO that helped ease my mind a lil toO!!

Do your research. I believe it is two weeks before the placenta starts degrading. And you are bound to go into labor before then!

mreh, I wouldn't hold my breathe ladies! LOL! She's miiiighty comfy up in there!

I really don't know how WELL he swept my membranes. Don't get me wrong, this exam felt NOTHING like my others. It actually HURT. While the others are just a TON of pressure.

But, I thought I'd at least spot, or lose mucus, ya know? I know not EVERYONE does, I just thought maybe it was more normal TO have these symptoms afterwards, than NOT to...

I was 1 week and two days overdue when I had my scheduled induction. I wasnt for it, but my son was running low on fluid, my placenta was getting old and he was running out of room so I allowed them to induct me to keep from any complications. I only needed a little bit of pictocin to give me a jump start, my cervix was well past 90% effaced when I went in and I was dialated to 3cm from the start of the induction process. My labor went so fast, only part that seemed to drag on was when I was pushing him out, that took me two hours and they had to use a vaccum because my sons heartrate dropped down into the 60's! I had him all natural tho and thats a good thing cuz then baby and I werent all drugged up from an epidural or w/e they use to kill the pain. I did beg for an epi tho lol but I couldnt have it because I had went from 5cm-9cm in 45 mins, that was during the time I had asked and was waiting to recieve my epi. By the time the Dr. was ready to drug me up, it was too late and I was forced to pop him out all natural. At the time, I thought I'd never do it again, looking at my son... I change my mind, I've done it once... I will do it again because its soooo worth it. Goodluck with everything.

Your doctor is so annoying saying all that! He shouldnt be pressuring you. The woman on that baby show I saw who was all for the natural thing and had her baby *naturally* 4 weeks past her due date was just fine! She payed a private midwife type person to look after her throughout the pregnancy and birth....she wasnt worried about her being overdue at all.

I know! That's why NEXT time, I'm sooooo getting a midwife.

I'm SOOO over Dr's and their interventions.

Maybe he'll give me an ultrasound to check on things with the baby.

I reallllly don't think anything is gonna happen ANYTIME soon. I just REALLY wanna meet herrrrrrrr!!!

yes the interventions are really hard to deal with for me even though this is my first. but thats why I wanted to have a home birth. But I cant because of my medical things. I was really disappointed cause I feel doctors do so many things that arent even necessary. I mean if my baby is in danger then please do everything, but please dont do it cause its convient. Gosh. just talking about the topic of doctors makes me mad!

yea. This is the thing...now a days, with Dr's, they don't want ANYTHING inexpected.

They're OVER the days of waking up in the middle of the night, or in the middle of a dinner party, or ANY type of unknown in labor/birth.
Dr's have become VERY selfish over the years of medicne.

I'm sooooo getting a midwife next time. I'll be on a different insurance and will prob have MORE options when it comes to choosing my Dr.
