White Wedding Dress = Virgins Only??

I was talking with a co-worker today at
work about wedding plans. And I told her
I wanted to wear sleath (a form fitting
gown that contours to your natural
silhouette) style white wedding dress not
the basque or ball grown style. Just
something nice and simple. She says
something like dude you're not a virgin
why are you gonna wear a white dress. I
was like well I'm not Catholic.
Now I'm not sure if it's only Catholic or
if it's even Catholic that goes by that
only virgins wear white when the get
married. I just feel I shouldn't have to
be pressured or looked down upon for
wearing a white dress.
Can I have some of y'all opinions about
this whole white dress thing. I'm so
confused right now!

It's a personal option. It's YOUR wedding,
do what YOU want to do. My mom was
Catholic when she was married, and her
mother DID NOT let her wear a white
wedding dress (It was purple, and I think
it looked much better than a white one
). If and when I
have a wedding, I'm definitely wearing a
white dress, when I'm CLEARLY NOT a virgin
(I'm pregnant )
It's not her choice on what color your
dress is. I've known women with a couple
kids wear a white dress (my mom included).
So again, it's personal choice and is YOUR
wedding.

Lilly Ivy nailed it as far as I'm
concerned. I wore purple at my wedding
because it's a flattering color on me and
I fell in love with the medieval dress
when I saw it. Bridezilla's are born of
old traditions and pressure, imho.

I wore emerald green satin on my wedding
day; I wouldn't have worn white if someone
had paid me. To me, in my beliefs, white
is the color or mourning I can't see why
anyone would wear it? And with a then 5
year old daughter NOTHING white stayed
white long.

I would just laugh at your co-worker.
Most people wear white, and most people
are not virgins. Do virgin men have to
wear white tuxes? Can non-virgin men wear
white tuxes if they want?
Tell her to take her double standard and
shove it. Tell her you are not property
that is being sold to your husband on your
wedding day.

Screw tradition. Wear gold lame' if you
want. The important thing is the
strengths of your vows, not what you look
like when you make them.

I wore a red dress- but I would of wore a
white one if I had wanted. I'm not one to
care for tradition

Nobody should be made to wear a white
tux-virgin or not-except Ricardo
Montalban!
I agree! Wear what you want and make
your friend come in a black veil.

How about those tuxedo t shirts? They are
great if you are under five years of age.

White doesn't really have anything to do
with virginity... in fact a lot of other
countries consider white the color of
death! Even Amercians did.
White wedding dresses are really a new
phenomenon.

Thanks girls for all your input and
advice! I really appreciate it!!!!! If I
decide not to wear white it'll be ivory or
champagne in color. And you know what
I'll mention that white meant color of
death in other countries and she what she
says! LoL
Thanks again!!

Ivory or Pink

can be just as beautiful. Look at all the
people having children and having their
big weddings in NYC wearing white with the
baby in waiting.
Wear what makes you happy. When I married
my husband, I had already been married
very young and it was kinda out of the
question to consider a veil or even ivory.
So I chose pink with beautiful
re-embroidered lace. Made the gown myself
and my bridesmaid's dresses too.
This day belongs to you and your husband.
It will be wonderful and special, I know.

I don't think people really hang on to
this idea much anymore! Most people I've
not in my lifetime were not virgins at the
time they got married and they ALL got
married in white gowns. This is YOUR
wedding I say wear what YOU want!!!

It's merely symbolism. Make your own
symbolisms. Whether you're a virgin or not
is only your business.
I'm tempted to wear a neon green tux at my
wedding just to be a Ask A Doctor
