steroids for swollen eyelid cyst Posted: 01-31-08 07:27am
I shall attempt to summarise what has
happen to me regarding my eye swelling
issue:
My initial symptoms were a small lump
under right eye lid which grew to the size
perhaps of a grape seed. I became alarmed
and was originally referred by my GP to Dr
Z.
Dr Z assessed the condition as being
fairly common type of infection associated
with the eye duct or glands under the eye
lid. This lead him to prescribing
anti-biotic treatment and, a bit further
on steroid treatment.
The initial anti-biotic treatment got
nowhere and in desperation I attended the
QE2 Hospital casualty department because
of the pain that was associated with the
condition. The junior doctor there
(apparently associated with Dr A tried to
cut the lump out. This attempt was
unsuccessful and as a consequence the
condition deteriorated.
I then visited Dr Z again. Understandably
he was very upset and annoyed with me for
allowing this occur and our relationship
deteriorated somewhat. He prescribed
further stronger courses of anti-biotics
and steroids. The Latter eventually
resulted in the swelling going down for a
short period. It than deteriorated even
further after I ceased the steroids.
After seeing a couple more specialists I
was hospitalized when the condition
deteriorated even further and eventually
spent 7 days in QE2. Whilst in hospital
all sorts of test were done. Initial
MRI%u2019s suggested that this was a
cancer of types and the doctors treating
me became very concerned as a result of
this indication. However subsequent test
have eliminated cancer.
The tests were unable to assist the
specialists in concluding what the cause
is. It is Ideopathic. I think I have had
the full range of test available and it is
still not clear as to what the cause of
this condition is. I have even had a Lung
biopsy to eliminate emphysema and T.B.
Eventually after my release from hospital
Dr A put me back onto steroids. Steroids
have reduced the swelling almost back to
normal, I have now been off them for 3
weeks. The steroid treatment had
unfortunate side effects which caused me
much anxiety so I am happy to be off them.
I still do not have any answers though. I
am keen to hear any similar stories,
suggestions or thoughts - I would be very
grateful. Thanks.

someone else from EHEALTH can help you
