T.V., or rather the conglomerates that own
the networks and use television as a
medium, have money making as their number
one priority above all else. Above the
best interests of you or your children.
Even the most beneficial seeming program
has to be paid for in some way and most
programs exist mainly as a backdrop for
advertising. These companies have a huge,
gigantic investment in creating consumers
out of us and more importantly out of
children. They are the future after all.
Read NO LOGO by Naomi Klien. It is a real
eye opener. T.V. does not accurately
reflect reality, it is there to sell
things to us and to make lots of money for
people who already have too much.

WE are the parents and WE allow our
children to watch this evil tv.
The point is, if you don't like it, turn
it off. No one is forcing
anyone to watch.

I think children will behave the way their
parents have raised them. When I was
growing up the kids I lived with were
terribly rude, but my children I am
raising to be polite. It all depends on
culture and circumstances. If the parents
are rude, then of course, their kids are
going to pick it right up....they are the
role models of their kids for quite a
while.
Then of course my kids don't watch TV
either. I don't know if TV teaches
rudeness per say, but children who watch
too much TV and don't get out of the house
to play with other children and learn to
interact with real people most likely
won't know how to behave in social
situations.

I agree with Homerx...great point,
Mominashoe. My nephew's friends are
completely spoiled and are never made to
work for their allowance or get a job. My
nephew was raised by my parents who except
for the gender double-standards pretty
much raised him as they raised my sister
and I. You do chores, you keep your
grades up, you get money to go to the
movies or whatnot. You don't get handed
money whenever you want just for existing
and living under their roof.
There are exceptions to that rule,
however. Some kids are just rotten no
matter what and you can have two siblings
that behave completely differently despite
both being raised the same way. Some
people are evil from birth until death and
there's nothing parents or anyone else can
do to change that. They can be locked up
but their nature won't change.

I think trough the years parents just gave
there kids more and more and discipline
them less. Making them rude and
inconsiderate..

Am I the only one?
I don't really feel that kids are "ruder"
really, or any less behaved. In instances
where a particular kid is, it's most
likely due to parenting. But it isn't
always that way. And I have worked in
schools for the past 5 years, elementary
and high school.
I think perhaps our vocabulary has
changed- so kids (and adults) are saying
different words that may sound ruder to
some. I don't think actual behavior has
really changed.
But I don't know.

I agree, today's kids are much more rude
and much less obedient of adults.Only a
little bit of what they do is based on TV.
Most of what kids do is based on what the
parents have done or currently do. I'm
not saying that parents are 100%
responsible for their kids behavior, but
they have an affect.
