I just reread your original post, and I
saw that the doctor didn't give you the
epidural until you were at 4. Why did he
make you wait so long? That must have
been HARSH!
Do some doctors think an epi slows things
down too much? Does anyone else have any
experience with this?

to him before. and I thank after 5 you

hard but I did GREAT. They did give me a
shot of something to help but it didn't
last long!!

That's wild that he gave you a c-section.
I was dilated to 1 for probably 20 hours
or so before I started making progress
(with pitocin in my iv and everything) and
no one even mentioned c-section to me.
Congrats on your son! I hope you recover
quickly.

Yes. They don't generally give epi's until
after 4cm. In 'early' labor it can slow
things down and in 'early' labor it isn't
so bad. (I KNOW it hurts, but it doesn't
hurt like contrax overlapping) As labor
progresses, women tend to tense up and it
can cause them to hold their breath. Once
they get an epi (or other pain meds) it
can allow enough relaxation that they stop
fighting the natural progression of their
body.
Do you watch baby story?

No, I haven't seen that, is it a show on
weekly? Is it on cable or a regular
network?
I got a spinal very early which worked
great, I felt NOTHING for 3 hours. As
that wore off they tried to get an
epidural to work, and they kept on trying,
for hours, literally, until I started to
push.
Here's how they knew the epi wasn't
working:
After they initially put the first
epidural in, I asked my nurse for the
bedpan. She replied, "I've been doing
this for over 20 years. No one can feel
their bladder after an epidural, so you
don't need a bedpan."
So I politely asked for it again so she
gave it to me, and I promptly used it. I
guess there's a first time for everything,
lol!

Sounds as if you had an intrathecal. It is
the 'lesser' epidural. It lasts around 2-4
hours. I had one of those. I <3'd it!
It was just enough to make the pain stop
for long enough to take a breath and gain
my strenth back for the real work

oh wow. Well, my doctor doesn't like
leaving someone in pain THAT long. Plus
his heart rate kept dropping EVERY time I
had a contraction. Not a lot but enough to
concern the nurses and i'm sure that's
another reason he didn't wanna let me try
to go on my own any more... he was just
trying to scare the crap outa me before he
was even born lol..
But in the end all that really matters is
we are BOTH HEALTHY and HAPPY

Congrats! Sorry to
hear you had a c-section tho, heard those
are much more painful during the healing
process then a regular vaginal birth. My
vaginal birth hurt bad and I had a
episiotomy, (to get his head out) and
still got a 3rd degree tear, (due to his
very large shoulders). Its been about 3
weeks and still hurts ever so slightly,
hope your healing goes fast!!! Enjoy your
baby.

FYI: Get a new doctor next time. First
pregnancies can take a lot longer than 12
hours to dilate.
Good luck with your
recovery. |
I was wondering about that too. I was at
2cm when I was admitted to the hospital
about 6 in the evening and had no change
till about 7 the next morning...after
being on pitocin for about 3 hours.
Congrats on your baby boy!!! Hope you
have a speedy recovery!

thanks guys... i am a fast healer and i
think getting the staples out today will
help 'cuz i'm afraid i'm gonna move wrong
and rip the out lol
i've heard c-sections are a lot worse as
well. I would think so, it's hell to get
up and down, walk. Everything plus you
can't go up or down stairs
