Q: watery discharge and bloody show

Is it normal to have a lot of watery discharge? I know your mucus plug is suppose to be more slimy and more like, well, mucus. However, my discharge has been clear and water for the past few weeks and enough for me to have to change my underwear a lot in one day. I know I am not peeing on myself because I smell it and it doesn't smell like pee. Plus I can feel it coming out of my vagina. I thought I was leaking Amniotic fluid but the doctor told me it wasn't. Then last night I gushed again and this time it was brown and I had cramps. I changed and a minute or less later it came out again and it was pink then again it was more bright until finally I had blood clots in it. I went to the hospital thinking I might be having a baby and my water might have broke ( I am 39 weeks) and they sent me home saying it wasn't my amniotic fluid. I am so confused! The blood isn't period severe but it's a lot more that I have been reading about.

Has this happened to anyone else? Could my doctors be wrong?

Your doctor is testing the discharge to see if it is amniotic fluid - so you can be pretty sure it isn't. Wink

Discharge is so awful during the end of pregnancy, definitely one of those things no one ever really talks about. A LOT of women have to wear panty liners during the last few weeks of pregnancy!

Brown blood is older blood and it can mean your cervix is changing or it could be from having an internal exam the day or two before or from sex. It isn't cause for alarm unless there is a lot of red blood with cramping.

It was a lot of blood. The first show was brown and after that it was red like normal blood and it stayed that way for a while then later it had clots in it. Oh and I haven't had sex in a few months so I know it wasn't from that. And I have horrible cramping. Period cramps. But the nurse sent me home and I've been here in pain hoping that this much blood is normal. It's been two days and I am still leaking blood and changing pads. Maybe labor is near. I HOPE!

If you still feel uncomfortable despite being sent home and something doesnt feel right, just go back. Better to be safe then sorry.
Usually bloody show is light, brown pinkish and in discharge. Its not frank red bleeding, that could be a sign of something else, specially with the cramping. I am 40 weeks...and if this was happening to me, I dont think I would leave the hospital.
