About 5 months ago I started regurgitating
some of the food I ate. I was undergoing
a little more stress than usual so I
attributed it to that. It also was
infrequent, happening maybe once a day.
Over time it has gotten progressively
worse to where I'm regurgitating
everything I eat or drink. Here is what
happens: I eat or drink a normal amount
and then about 10-15 minutes after I eat,
I regurgitate a mouthful of whatever I
just consumed. I spit that out and a
minute later, another mouthful. This can
continue for over an hour. I've been in
the situation where I have no other option
than to reswallow the food but when I do
that I get a bad stomach ache and it will
try to come back up later. The longer I
hold it in, the more acid it gets. This
is truely awful to deal with and I've done
the barium swallow and upper endoscopy
with negative results. I don't eat as
much because I know what will happen. Any
other options? Any answers? Whats wrong
with me? Please help.

Digestive and Bowel Disorders Answer A3613 Posted: 02-07-08 09:42am
Regurgitation can be a symptom of several
disorders such as: achalasia, GERD, hiatus
hernia, esophageal cancer and even some
types of psychosomatic disorders. Several
diagnostic procedures can be performed to
identify the precise diagnosis and cause
for regurgitation. Such diagnostic
procedures include: a gastroscopy, an
abdominal ultrasound, Barium-swallow test,
chest X-rays, an esophageal manometry,
24-hour esophageal pH monitoring…etc.
If all of these tests show no organic or
functional disorder the remaining
diagnostic possibility is that you are
experiencing a psychosomatic disorder. You
can consult an internal medicine
specialist about your problem and seek
further diagnostic examinations.
