Q: Bleeding again after first period post-pregnancy
asked by: DoctorQuestion on February 4th, 2008
Hello. I had a baby on dec.24 2007! It was a vaginal delivery. He is 7 weeks old and doing great. I am not breastfeeding so at about 5-6 weeks I had my period , which was super heavy. it lasted for a full week, i stopped completely for a couple of days and now am bleeding again. Its like I am having another period. I have no idea what is going on , if its normal, or seriuos. I did not do this with my first child so thats why I am concerned. It is a pretty steady flow and this is my 3rd day of bleeding. It started as spotting but is now full on bleeding. Please help. thank you

You can’t have another period so soon after the previous one. It could be some type of metrorrhagia (pathologic bleeding from the womb). You can visit your gynecologist to check what is causing this bleeding. It is very important to find out if this bleeding is due to some placental piece left inside the womb after delivery or due to something else.
