About 4 months ago, while out to dinner, i
noticed my jaw popped really loud while
chewing. Afterwards it was very tender
and hurt to bite down. This tenderness
lasted for a couple of days. Ever since,
this has continued to flare up now and
then. I am having joint pain and
tenderness when i chew. It also feels
like my teeth on that side are numb. I
also want to say that my back teeth feel
misaligned. Any opinions??

It sounds like tmd-----Have you had any
accidents that you are aware of? or under
a ton of stress? how about dentists
visits. and have you had your wisdom teeth
out?
for now--take ibuprophen with lots of
water about an hour befor you eat. use ice
and heat on the joint. only for 15 min on
and off. is there any other information
that you could give me so that i can help
you better?

I don't have my wisdom teeth. I am under
a ton of stress (working full time and
going to nursing school). Been a while
since last dentist visit (i know-shame,
shame). If the symptoms get worse I will
make an appt. sooner than later.
thanks for your help...

Hi- Do you ever catch yourself grinding or
clenching your teeth? Maybe at night? A
lot of the symptoms you are describing
could be stemming from that. Grinding or
clenching will make your teeth sore when
you bite down. And most clenching or
grinding are at their worst when someone
is under alot of stress. This will make
your jaw stiff and sore because you are
constantly working those muscles. We see
it alot in the dental office I work in.
Sounds like you may need a nightguard.
This will not only protect you from doing
any harm to your teeth, it will also
prevent you from doing any more damage to
your jaw joints. Hope this helps...
