HPV and penal and anal cancer Posted: 02-04-08 19:55pm
A good friend has said that he has been
diagnosed with Prostrate Cancer of middle
aggressiveness and is undergoing radiation
theraphy.
His wife had cervical cancer 20 years ago,
and after a five year battle, she died.
On going onto a site a few days ago with
information posted from the Center for
Disease Control in Atlanta, they stated
there is a connection with HPV and penal
and anal cancers.
Is there further information on this
matter?
Thanks.

Yes, this can be true. Anal cancer can
also be linked to HPV. So far, cancers in
men caused by HPV are considered rare.

YES, HPV is linked to certain male
cancers..
PROSTATE cancer is not one of them.

Penal cancers. Are there other penal
cancers than prostrate cancer?
I am just trying to learn about this as my
friend is in the middle of this whole
ordeal.

The University of Wisconsin Health
Services state that while it is heard of
and has been found as a result of HPV, it
is not nearly as common as the cervical
cancer diseases that are caused by HPV.
The Center for Disease Control in Atlanta
on HPV and Men With HPV Exposure, state
that yes men can contract penal and anal
cancers while it is rare. The best policy
is to avoid multiple partners . Men at
the highest risk are those with weakened
immune systems (HIV).
I believe there is a strong connection
with HPV with the high risk types that
cause cervical cancer in women, and,
likewise, penal cancers in their partners.
It may be rare, but, it is after all a
virus. A virus can be passed around and
who is more exposed than your partner?

Most infections with high-risk HPV types
do not lead to cancer because the immune
system is able to remove the virus before
it causes problems. When it does occur,
cancer takes time to develop. It usually
takes 5 years to 10 years, or even more,
for cancer to develop.
Infection with "high risk" types of HPV
may lead to cancer of the cervix, vulva,
vagina, anus, or penis.
Penile cancer is extremely rare,
especially in circumcised men and affects
about 1 in every 100,000 men.
Anal cancer is very rare cancer, too,
especially in men with healthy immune
systems and people with HIV infections are
more likely to develop it.
Some experts are trying to learn whether
Pap smears of the anus might help protect
men from developing anal cancer.

There are also some studies that suggest
that HPVs may play a role in developing
some cancers of the oropharynx (the middle
part of the throat that includes the soft
palate, the base of the tongue, and the
tonsils)

When we have been diagnosed with HPV with
the high risk types, does our body
integrate the HPV into our DNA which is
ever changing into something new and
evolving into making us immune or
susceptible to carrying the HPV for the
rest of our lives?
If only 1 man in 100,000 develops penile
cancer, it seems to be a pretty low risk.
From the data that I have read, it says
that men from Africa and South America are
shown to have more risk than the rest of
the population.
To build up a strong antibody level to HPV
or any other viral threat, is it the same
as being super sensitive to an allergy,
i.e., bee sting? If you are stung, your
body goes overboard to try to protect you
by it's reaction. You can actually die
from this over-reaction.
