OMG! How exciting about the money!
On a positive note, you don't have to go
back for 6 months!

Ingi do you think that that is ok to wait
6mths before having a biopsy done? My old
doctor did one right away just to make
sure. But this one said that it takes a
while for the cells to turn cancerous so I
would be fine. What do you think?

Yes. I do. It takes YEARS for dysplasia to
turn into cancer - if it ever does.
Because it doesn't always.
It sounds to me like your dysplasia is low
grade.
Remind me when your cryo was? Sometimes if
it has been too recent, your pap smear can
be off because you are still healing from
the cryo/LEEP.

Is cryo/LEEP the same as a biopsy? Because
I had a biopsy done about 8-9yrs ago. At
that time it came back fine and they just
went away on its own. Since than my paps
have some back normal..up until now.

Six months is a normal wait unfortunatly.
I'm sorry you're going through that, I've
done the 6 month wait twice, and i'm
always scared the whole time. Hopefully it
will come back all clear when you go in
again.

Sorry. I confused your situation with
someone else's. *airhead*
Waiting 6 months is fine. You'll be fine.
Like I said, dysplasia is not an indicator
of cancer. It isn't even considered
PRE-cancer. Dysplasia is cell changes
caused by HPV. If you have low grade
dysplasia, it doesn't always make a lot of
sense to go in there since your body can
clear it on it's own. Which it sounds like
it did before! That is GREAT news!!! Your
body can do this again.
You should be taking a multivitamin and
eating really well (healthy). Lost of iron
rich foods.
Good luck!

Thanks Ingi your such a great help I actually take
prenatal vitamins and extra folic acid
because I am ttc. I think that that was
one of my biggest fears that I was going
to have to put ttc on hold. But my doc
said it was fine. I am though going to try
though to make sure that I am getting lots
of iron.
Thanks girls.....there is a couple of
things that I have had my eyes on but I
always spend my money on my kids so this
time I am actually gonna treat myself

Ingi's absolutely right. Recently changes
have been made to the way this is treated.
Here is an article about it:
source
This month (April 2006), the American
College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists
released a Committee Opinion on the
Evaluation and Management of Abnormal
Cervical Cytology and Histology in the
Adolescent. In plain English, that means
that there are new guidelines about how to
deal with abnormal Pap smears and cervix
biopsies in young women.
The new guidelines have come about because
of improved understanding of the natural
history and cancer-causing potential of
human papilloma virus (HPV), and because
we have improved Pap smears (liquid-based)
and high-risk HPV DNA testing available to
us now. The net result is that we are
finally able to say that most HPV-related
problems in young women are unlikely to
cause cancer, and we are comfortable using
the new tools to follow the abnormalities
conservatively rather than treat them
aggressively unnecessarily.
This is good news, because most HPV
infections and their resulting
abnormalities will resolve on their own
without treatment. The treatments
(cryotherapy, laser, and LEEP) are known
to increase the risk of damage to the
cervix, and it seems prudent to limit
these procedures in the relatively young.
The bottom
line here is that if you or your young
daughter's Pap smear is abnormal, it is
now reasonable to take a more conservative
approach to managing these lesions without
a fear of cancer developing. Such
observation requires good compliance with
follow-up, however, and only
well-informed, reliable young women should
take advantage of these relaxed
guidelines.
