effectiveness of loestrin 24 fe
Posted: 02-06-08 00:41am

I just started loestrin 24 fe 2 days ago (first day of my period). I was wondering how long it takes for the pill to be effective in preventing pregnancy. I have been getting the idea that it takes about a week from all the information I have read on this pill and about how if you miss a pill or two that for one week you should use a back up kind of protection. If anyone knows approximately how long it takes, I would greatly appreciate it. I would also like some opinions about this pill. I have heard both negative and positive reviews and I know that it all depends on the person and their body, but some input would still be nice. Thanks!

Seven days. Anytime you have taken a pill for seven days in a row, you are protected. If you miss one pill, take it as soon as you remember (or the next day with that day's pill). If you miss two pills in a week, you need to use condoms for seven days again. This information is included in the packaging, too.

I used it and have no complaints whatsoever. I wish I was still on it!

I use microgestin which is one of the generic brands for loestrin. It's cheaper and for me I found microgestin is a lot better on my stomach than loestrin.

i'm 18 and i had just started using loestrin about 4 months ago. well i ran out around the beginning of september and because i could not make a doctors appt. until the end of september i have been off the pill and unprotected for about 3 and 1/2 weeks now. i hadn't had sex in a while and my boyfriend and i just had unprotected sex (stupid i know) and he doesn't recall if he finished inside of me or not. is there a chance that i would be fertile enough to become pregnant?

also when i had started taking loestrin it messed up my cycle to where i was 2-3 weeks late or it was very short and light. not that i'm complaining but it's weird because i have been regular since i started in the 5th grade. it always made me gain weight like crazy and my already somewhat existing acne became uncontrollable.

If you had sex with no form of birth control, then there is a chance of pregnancy.

When did this happen? You can take Plan B (the morning after pill) up to 5 days after unprotected sex, but its best taken within the first 72 hours. Plan b is a two dose pill with a high dose of hormones that's taken in a last attempt to prevent pregnancy.

Yep, and you're older than 18 so you shouldn't have any issues getting it.

Buy it at soon as you can, take it right after and follow the directions. Good luck!
