I have been having very heavy periods
every month w/clotting. I tried
low-ogestril and broke out terribly,
yasmin made my heart condition worse, and
lutera made me depressed and irritable.
I am now on prometrium, but am dizzy all
day. My doctor has suggested an iud,
changing bcp, and even an endometrial
ablation,. What are your suggestions for a
pill that will not worse acne or
depression, but can help reduce heavy
flow?? Thanks

It may not have the same effect on you,
but when I was taking Ortho Micronor it
stoped my peirod all togeither. When i
first started taking it i had a small
headach for about 2 months, than it went
away. It didnt affect my moods or give me
acne, the only thing that i didnt like was
it made my boobs constlinly sore, but that
to me is something i can put up with.
Maybe you could talk to your dr about that
one?
Hope i helped alittle, have a good day!

Your BEST bet would be a MIRENA IUD.
The hormone dose i it is MANY MANY times
lower than a mini pill, and is known to
cause fewer problems in women as far as
depression is concerned.
I too have depression, but it is treated
and I am great. BC pills make my
depression worse though, and the IUD is
great.
MIRENA IUD also reduces blood flow and
menstrual cramping, but can cause
irregular light spotting in the first
months of use. (Adjustment time frame)

Minipills aren't necessarily better,
progesterone can have weird side effects
too. I was on ortho-micronor and it wasn't
too bad, but I had my period every 2 weeks
or so (my normal cycle is about 40 days)
and constant pms. And the sore breasts-
really sore, my husband couldn't even
touch them and I wouldn't even take my bra
off when we had sex because it would hurt
so much. I also got headaches, but I later
found out that I was anemic so I'm sure it
was more due to that than the pill.
Mirena wasn't really for me, but many
women LOVE it so I would suggest trying
that. It is supposed to make your period
manageable and even go away in some women
(including me).
Nuvaring is also supposed to have less
side effects because the hormones stay
more localized or something- similar to
mirena. I had nuvaring and LOVED it, I
wish I could still be on it, but I can't
because of medical reasons. My period was
really light on nuvaring, and I had no
real side effects... except after a year
or so I started experiencing really
painful sex. The doc didn't think that was
because of the ring, but as soon as I
switched it got better so I'm not
convinced. Anyways....
I hope I helped you and didn't just scare
you! Most women really love mirena. Give
it a try!

I have Paragaurd, which is a copper IUD,
and so far I am completely happy. I had a
horrible time with hormonal birth control
so this was the best option for me.
