Needle pricking sensation on skin surface when hot Posted: 02-06-08 13:43pm
For the past two months, every time my
body warms up a little bit (such as being
in a warm room, having too many layers of
clothes on, having the heat in the car at
normal settings or feeling flustered or
embarrased), I get this sharp painful but
quick needle pricking sensation across
random locations all over my back, my
underarms, and the back of my upper legs.
The sensation is quick but painful. It
honestly feels like someone is stabbing me
repeatedly with needles all over the
place. The sensation does not stop until I
manage to cool myself down either by
taking a cold shower or going outside in
the cold weather.
I've talked to my family physician about
it, and she says my blood work has come
back normal and attributed it to my body's
natural reaction to heat. However, I
normally do not react to heat like this.
This has happened to me once before many
years ago, but I don't recall how it went
away. I receive this sensation at least
once a day, and it is starting to bother
me both physically and mentally. Does
anyone have any information on what it is
and how I can make it go away?

Im facing the same problem too..... this
thing is troubling me from past 1 month, I
also see tiny bumps on my arms when this
sensation starts and they disappear when
my body cools down. If anyone has an idea
what this is please let me know.

I am wondering if it possibly has
something to do and/or related with
sweating...
With me, obviously, it's not from heat
generated by clothing but, it still seems
to be sweat related, as I tend to get what
you described, when I suffer from a
"light" anxiety attack. I would obviously
start sweating and then I would start
itching all over and would get "pin prick"
sensations.
Do you drink a lot of water? I should
actually look into it my self as well,
because this is not really supposed to be
normal but because with me it's related to
anxiety I haven't really given much
thaught.
You might concider seeing your GP and/or a
dermatologist? The other fact I should
mention as well, is that I have been told
on a couple of occasions that my skin is
very elastic...

The bumps are probably goosebumps. I get
this tingly/needle feeling too but it's
never bothered me; I assumed all people
get this! It doesn't worry me at all. It
doesn't happen all the time. I think it
feels kinda good.
