Bipolar disorder and weight loss Posted: 02-08-08 04:37am
I have recently lost 50 pounds, and my
bipolar moods seemed to get more and more
extreme with the more weight I lost. The
last time my condition was this extreme
was also after I lost a lot of weight. I
know it's an odd/crazy question, but is
there any known connection between changes
in a person's weight and bipolar
disorder?
There is no direct connection between
weight loss and bipolar disorder. Bipolar
disorder is a serious psychotic disorder
with an unknown etiology, or cause that is
believed to be genetically conditioned.
Bipolar disorder may have an impact on
body weight by influencing appetite and
physical activity, but the opposite
influence is nearly impossible. Weight
changes can’t influence the evolution
of bipolar disorder.
