I'm sorry my reply to your last post
wasn't clearer but you can give your baby
any soft gooey baby food in a can or in a
small bottle (ours have metal lids that
unscrew very useful for resealing when bub
has to be moved mid-feed etc.
I don't know what brands you have but any
supermarket should have tonnes of
different baby foods - they should be
colour coded according to age & the
recommended age range should be on the
container.
Start with simple bland foods to see if
the baby is ok with that food (no
allergies etc) & likes it etc then add
another one at a time (experts suggest
aweek or so apart - I never bothered with
that - I just got what I thought sounded
ok & tried them my two ate & we
were all happier. Give them more if they
want it - I don't mean overfeed but some
babies need more food (grow faster, start
out bigger, have faster metabolisms
whatever).
Fruits, vegetables, custards are a good
place to start then steak 7 veges etc (of
course it's nothing like the steak &
vegetables we eat - nothing at all, it's
for babies!!!!
Pm me anytime if you want some advice,
feel the need to yell & let it out -
we all get that way - whatever.

I've always been told no tot give a baby
baby food until the 4th or 5th month, but
when you do start with one kind of baby
food to make sure he/she does not have an
allergic reaction. After a week if
everything is ok then add another kind in
there.

Your not supposed to give a baby food
until 4-6 months, the longer you breast
feed the better, your babys tummy can't
digest baby food yet. Babies who eat too
soon can have problems in the future. And
if you feel your baby is ready then start
them on pablum. Which you only start with
a bite a day and go from there. My 3month
old looks ready but i'm not going to start
anything until 4 months, just to make
sure.
I started feeding my kids rice cereal
mixed with breast milk or formula at three
months old. I also started them on
applesauce. I only fed them one type of
jar food for a month to watch for
allergies. Your baby will gain weight
with the rice cereal, but, if you feed the
cereal before bedtime, they will sleep
better because their little belly is full.
There is nothing wrong with feeding a
three month old. Just remember to not
give a child any honey until they are at
least two years old.
2 days ago the health nurse came over and
my son is 4 months and she said since he
is on pablum and has been ok with it for
awhile now, I can start with food. But
she said that I should start with
vegetables because the fruit ones taste a
lot better and they dont need to know how
good they taste because it might make it
harder to give the baby not as good food.
Lol I kinda made that confusing...

I started feeding my last son and my grand
daughter very young. Watered down ceral
then food. They both had stomache
problems on the milk. They would get too
full, cuz they were still hungry and it
would make them puke. The food went down
much better--real young. Both were also
breast fed for the first 3 months, and
still ate cereal fruit and vegetables.
You can tell if your baby is hungry and if
the milk or formula is just not enough!!!
Shoot some hispanic baby's are on rice
and beans before a lot of 'white" babys
are even eating anything. I would just
suggest listening to your child--you will
know by their crys if they are not
satisfied with just milk anymore

It doesn't matter about other babies of
other races. You need to do the right
thing for your baby, if you consult a
dietitian or a pediatrician, they will say
maybe you can start a 3month old on rice
cereal, but you should really do it around
4 months then go from there, after rice
cereal theres oatmeal cereal then barley
then soy. Then start on real baby food
after that. If you read any baby books
they will tell you what to do, you can't
rely on what mom used to do, things change
and so does science.

Babys dont change--science is not changing
but mans preception of it is. There are
no set facts in science and all of us are
different. That is where science has no
clue, neither do the doc's. They all
think they know it all, and I have a god
who would beg to differ. Mothers if led
by their inner voice know more than
anyone--about their own child. I dont
care about your baby books I have been
pregnant 10 times and have 3 children, one
on the way(with no uterus) and my god
said he would show me how to be a mom.
Never read a baby book--but I do read my
bible.

Baby Food Posted: 09-11-05 23:22pm
Birth to 4 months of age
during the first four to six months of
life, infants need only breast milk or
formula to meet all their nutritional
needs. Breast milk is the recommended
feeding method for the first six months of
life although a fortified formula can
adequately meet an infant's needs.
If breastfeeding, a newborn may need to
nurse eight to 12 times per day (every 2
to 4 hours), or on demand. By four
months, the baby is likely to cut back to
four to six times per day, however, the
quantity of breast milk consumed at each
feeding will increase.
Formula-fed babies may need to eat about
six to eight times per day, starting with
2-5 ounces of formula per feeding (for a
total of 16-35 ounces per day). As with
breastfeeding, the number of feedings will
decrease as the baby gets older, but the
amount of formula will increase to
approximately 6-8 ounces per feeding.
Never give honey to an infant, as it may
contain the spores that cause botulism.
An infant's immune system is not fully
developed to fight off this disease.
Although an infant may sleep through the
night, waking to feed may be necessary if
the infant is not eating enough during the
day or if they are underweight. Routine
check-ups with your physician to monitor
your child's growth will ensure they are
eating adequately during the day. Your
doctor or dietitian will inform you if
waking to feed is recommended.

Thats great that you have faith in all,
but it doesn't replace facts. If you
would leave a mother with nothing but
instinct of course a baby would thrive,
but you still need proper nutrition.
Plain and simple. And of course the
doctors and science know. Thats why its
called knowledge, we learn new things
trough scientific break troughs, and if we
can use that to raise healthy children
then the better. You shouldn't give
advise if you yourself have not read
anything on the subject. It may be fine
for your children how ever many you have,
(be it a good thing or not) but for others
who enjoy doing it the way science has
proven to be affective many time over.

My health visitor explained to me the
reason why a baby shouldnt be fed until 4
months old, she said it is because the
large molecules of food irritate the babys
intestines, and cant be absorbed properly.
Also, I suppose that formula/breast milk
is more nutritional than baby rices etc.
I was weened at 3 months though, and I
dont have any food type allergies that I
know of.
Its difficult to know what to think when
the professionals are always changing
their advice when weening at 3 months
worked out okay in the past.
I know that this is an old post, but im
just making an addition to it in case
anyone else looks to it for advice and
opinions.

My pediatrician told me to start my son on
some pablum (rice cereal) when he was 6
weeks old cause he was eating so much. I
did it for a while and then stopped casue
it wasn't making a diff to his sleeping
through the night or anything. Now he
will be 3 months (and weighs about
16-17lbs) on wed and we have started
again. It still doesn't really make a
diff to his sleeping but hopefully it will
soon. He eats about 9oz every 2 hours
during the day and 7-9 oz every 3-4hours
from 8pm-7am. I give him some cereal in
the morn and at night with his bottle. I
am one tired mama!!

When to Start Solids? Posted: 10-21-05 10:57am
I hope no one gets offended...My
opinion.
Listen to your child. I have twins, one
is now ready at 3 months. He screams
after having 9 ounces. Clearly, formula
is not enough. I refuse to carry around 4
bottles when feeding my twins. So I
started some solids which has worked out
great. He eats from a spoon without a
problem. He was ready. His identical
twin brother is not. He will not eat
from the spoon, wants his bottle and seems
to be more content when fed formula.
My brother and I started solids at 15
days. That's what the doctor ordered back
then and we are just fine. Experience
says just as much or more than books do at
times.
I tried to do things the way the doctor
says "start solids at 6 months" that will
not work for me or my babies.
Now both of my babies eat 4 times a day
and sleep from 8pm until 7 in the morning
at 3 months a 1 week.
They eat at 8am,11am,3pm,7pm and sleep 12
hours and take frequent naps during the
day. They are satisfied, happy and full.
You need to have an open mind and listen
to your instincts and your baby and
through trial and error you'll figure out
whats best.
Remember the doctor won't pay your
phychologists bill. :-)

You know whats more anoying than ppl
looking at your buldging belly and asking
r u pregnant???? Ppl who believe
everything they read or hear lol.A mother
knows whats best for her child........My
son is 9 weeks and started pablem at 8
weeks. Because of his weight mostly. But
once a baby is drinking about 25-30 oz a
day and can support there own neck your
safe to try watered down pablem . I dont
care how many ppl say you shouldnt do that
yadda yadda freakin yadda. Do you have
any idea how many ppl couldnt beliveve I
had a 10 month pregnancy . My son was
born 3 days short of 10 months and came
out perfectly healthy. On his own without
drugs in 4 hours form beginning of labour
to the end of it. I got so sick of people
saying your hurting your child ladda ladda
. He wsa happy and healthy and fine .
And he came out as nature intended ...
Pumpin him full of drugs and poking and
proding to get him out would have hurt him
. Lol .... Anyawys enough about that. I
suggest asking your dr for her advice but
either way the choice is yours. You do
what you think is best. Pablum doesnt
cause obesity in babies . Or long term
thats horse poop. The only part of it
that causes allergies is if your
introducing a wide variety of kinds at
once. Although I dont agree with putting
it in the bottle at least I wont do that
to my son . He gets a little at a time on
a spoon . And he only gets a teaspoon
three times a day . Hes fine . And
thriving . And he was a big baby when he
was borbn . Hes about 13 lbs right now
and 27 inches long. He can eat an 8 oz
bottle and still be hungry. However in my
case my dr told me to put him on pablem to
help with his acid reflux. Every dr and
health care professional and health nurse
will say something different. How about
you stop litening to every person who says
no no do this no no do this and do what
your baby tells you . You can tell when
you baby is ready. He or she will shwo
you signs of readiness . My personal
suggest ... Is just what I did with my
son . I gave him the tiniest amount
thinned out with formula. .. They need
to get used to the consistancy. So at
first they might not really like it. As
time goes on after a few weeks you can
make it a tiny bit thicker etc etc. But
your baby will let you know when there
ready . And if the need it thicker or not
. However if you are feeding it to a
younger baby especially one who is formula
fed you want to make sure you stay iron
free.... Because too much iron will hurt
the lil tummy and remmeber babies still
have reserves of iron they took from you
while pregnant. ( ps if you donty
really like waht I said . Lol than go on
and read the next post . ) I really donty
want to hear your argumentative side about
it. Everyone seems to think he or shes
dr knows best. If that was the case. So
many drs wouldnt say something different.
And since wouldnt keep chaning.. Like
someone said earlier. Ppls perception of
science is chaning not the babies lol in
ten years now they will be saying pablem
is good again lol . O and ps... If
u seem to think that 4 months is so
right.... Health guidenlines actually
state 4-6 but the later part of 6...
Lol than why do they make the pablem box
say 0-6 or birth - 3 etc etc....
Anyways mommies do what you feel is best
for you baby after speaking with your Dr.
However id suggest never putting it in a
bottle and leaving your baby hold the
bottle and walking away ever... That
could be ick.Y
