I don't like to leave the house unless it's by my self and when I do run into people I know very well I pretend I didn't see them. Whats my problem. I hate social events and I have a graduation coming up what to do any advice. Laughing Rolling Eyes

Omg.. I thought I was reading a post that I had written.. I feel and do the exact same things as you, I also have a graduation coming up, and im dreading it!!.. I hate it because im constantly getting harassed about not going out, and not being able to make many friends, cuz I can't put myself out there like that. I've thought that maybe it could be social anxiety disorder.. But I really haven't looked into that condition alot. And I hate going to the doctor, because I think that if I go back there everytime there may be something wrong with me shes gunna think that im crazy or something. All I know is that I want this fear of people to go away!!!!

Exactly how I feel . I'm great with people if I don't know them and won't see them again other wise some time I feel people think i'm stuck up and it's so far from that being the truth. We were watch an add on tv about social disorder and my husband jokingly said I think thats you.. Wow me too.. Any advise Rolling Eyes

Sounds like you both definetly have social anxiety. Just go to the doc and get some meds for it!

Good luck,

Well there are breathing excercizes, try to stay calm and face your fears. If that doesn't work then you will prob need meds. Paxil isn't addicting so try to look into that!

My fear is people will judge me or not like me and thats the problem with going to a Dr. With this. It's a small town and people talk and even if they don't I think they do . I can't even work in the same town I live in because I don't want to mix the two.

I understand you don't want to be a direct topic, but you do need to speak with someone about this. It will not go away on it's own, and you are only getting older and you will soon have to walk into the "real" world.

hi stac6-
most of the drugs are not addictive especially the anti-depressant ones.
You mmay want to look into cognitive behavioral therapy (cbt). I was on meds for many years before I found cbt and it cured me and got me off meds in a remarkably short period of time. Best of all once you learn the tools in cbt you have them forever so you are able to give yourself relief almost instantly whenever you are feeling stressed, anxious or down. It's all about using the tools to learn to think more clearly and accurately about things and once you do your anxiety, panic and depression will miraculously begin to lift before your eyes. My favorite starter book on cbt is "been there, done that? Do this! By sam obitz. Like anything in life the more you put in the more you get out of cbt.

This sounds like social anxiety disorder. I hear cbt works great for it and it cured my depression and panic disorder Smile
