Ear Disorder or Viral Infection? Posted: 02-08-08 16:36pm
Hello! I am experiencing ear problems and
I feel like my doctor is not very
experienced with ear problems and/or
doesn't care enough. So I'm here hoping to
come up with a better idea of what is
going on. First off, my doctor thinks I
have viral infection in my ear.
Here is what has been happening:
At the end of summer 2007 I experienced a
vertigo attack that came out of nowhere.
First, my hearing faded, then I got dizzy,
then I felt like I needed to throw up or
drink something and then I got the cold
sweats followed by clammy pale skin. It
lasted about 5 minutes. I never looked
into it because I thought maybe I was just
dehydrated and I had nothing bothering
afterwards.
On December 7th, 2007 I got a really bad
sore throat and then a mild runny/stuff
nose. That lasted about a week.
On January 10, 2008 I experienced another
vertigo attack that came out of nowhere.
It lasted the same amount of time but I
felt a lot weaker after this attack. I
actually went to Urgent Care to make sure
everything was ok. Everything came back
normal. From that day on I still felt
slightly light headed and not balanced on
my feet. I went to the doctor, he took
blood tests and everything came back
normal. He gave me Antivert. That didn't
help much though. I felt light headed and
unbalanced for about a week after the
attack. Then I had a week of feeling fine.
January 31, 2008 my head started to feel
slightly off balance again and then as the
days progressed my ears started to fill
with fluid. I've been taking Sudafed and a
nasal spray that's supposed to reduce
inflammation.
Ok the Sudafed has been helping to drain
everything BUT it's a week later and I'm
not feeling much better. I still have this
weird off balance sensation in my head and
I have to pop my ears every couple of
minutes.
Has anyone had these symptoms before? Does
it sound like a viral infection that has
lingered in my nostrils for 2 months or
more like an ear disorder since I'm having
the vertigo attacks out of nowhere??

I have experienced the same thing. I had a
sinus infection, it cleared, but my ears
continue to be slight clogged. I am
swaying back and forth all time. When I
swallow ears click, but they do not clear.
The rockng back and forth dizzy feel is
horrible. I can barely function. I leave
work early and sometimes can not go into
work. It is hard to concentrate. I am
waiting to take some tests. I hope there
is a cure for this and it goes away.

No, i still have slight clogged only in my
right ear. I also experienced what you
had. The dizzy feel came from my sinus
infection. I had to leave work too due to
the dizzy feel and headaches. Maybe your
sinuses is not clear. What helped me was
claratin-D. They have it otc. Plus some
antibiotics. But the clogged ears take
ahwile to go away. mpgonzales, Do have
allergy probems?

I have been referred to an allergist also.
I requested this, just to double check. I
have taken the Clariton -D and other
allergy discon. meds and they do not seem
to work for the ears. According to the ENT
the sinus appear to be clear, hower a
brain scan a few weeks ago should
congestion in my right sinus. I still have
rining in my ears, slight
clogging/fullness, and the imbalance
issue/swaying back and forth 24/7, even
when I sleep. I eyes underlids a puffy and
red.

Do you have black mold at your work place
or home? That could also cause those
symptoms. You can also look up otitis
media with effusion(OME) or GLUE EAR. My
other doctor diagnos me with that, and i
was getting those same symptoms as you.

Doctors didnt do much. Meds helped a
little, but time and getting alot of rest
kind of cured it. It took 3 weeks till my
dizziness went away and my clogged ears
about almost 3 months. Using those neti
pots, the one you get from drugs stores
kind of helped with my clogged ears. You
should try it.
