knees. When I stand for long periods of
time I feel pain. When I went to the
doctor they did x-rays and exams and

An X-ray image can visualize only the
bones that make up a particular joint.
X-rays don’t visualize the soft tissues
in and around the joint such as the
meniscus, ligaments, cartilage, capsule,
tendons and muscles. This means that if
the pain originates from some type of soft
tissue damage, an X-ray won’t help
locate the problem. Diagnostic procedures
that can visualize the soft tissue in and
round the joint, besides a physical
examination, include a CT-scan, MRI,
ultrasound and arthroscopy. You can
consult an orthopedist about your
condition.
