I just had my first trimester nucal
translucency test today and read the info.
that the technicial wrote down after the
test.
It showed that my baby has a nuchal
translucency of 1mm and the baby's length
from crown to rump is 56mm. I am 39 years
old and the gestational age of the baby is
12 weeks/1 day. Can you tell me if this is
normal? What are my chances of having a
baby with Down Syndrome?

A nuchal translucency of 3mm or larger
thickness is considered abnormal. In your
case, nuchal translucency is measured at
1mm which means that the thickness is
within normal range. If we use only your
age (39) as a risk factor for having baby
with Down syndrome, that risk is
statistically around 1,6 %. There are also
other prenatal tests besides nuchal
translucency that are required for
predicting the possibility of having a
baby with Down syndrome including :
alpha-fetoprotein (AFP), unconjugated
estriol (uE3), and human chorionic
gonadotropin (HCG), pregnancy-associated
plasma protein A (PAPP-A) and Inhibin-A.
You can consult an obstetrician about
these diagnostics and to schedule a
consultation.
