Gallbladder not contracting Posted: 02-09-08 11:32am
Hello Everyone, I went for a hida scan
with injection yesterday. Tech told me
with the medicine they shot into me my
gallbladder is supposed to contract but
did not. He would not say anything else.
I'm wondering if this means I'm going to
have to have my gallbladder taken out.
Anyone else familiar with this? How is the
surgery? How long will I be out from
work?
Thanks

I thought that the Hida scan was suppose
to mimick a gallbladder attack. And if it
caused the symptoms of a gallbladder
attack, that meant you have gallbladder
problems. But honestly I just don't know.
You'll have to let us know what they tell
you. Are you feeling sick? Maybe you
won't have to have surgery.
Most people who have had laproscopic
surgery return to normal activities within
3-5 days is what I've heard.

I have been feeling nauseous, I get
crampy, feel fatigued. I will let everyone
know what the Dr says. I really don't want
another surgery, I just had sinus surgery
in Dec. The people at work are going to
think I'm a nut!

I had a hida scan last thursday and my
test showed my gall bladder is working at
a whopping 9%. The technician told me
that the hormone they inject into you is
the same hormone that your body uses to
make the gallbladder contract. It doesn't
emulate a gallbladder attack, but it
forces the gallbladder to contract so they
can test the excretion rate.
I am scheduled to have mine removed next
Friday. I'm petrified because I've never
had surgery before. I've only been put to
sleep once when I had oral surgery. They
did tell me that I'm having it done
laproscopically and I should be fine in a
week to 10 days. He said it's extremely
easy and my surgeon has done over 1500 and
the worst complication that he's ever had
is leakage from the duct.
I'm not too worried about the surgery
itself, but I'm petrified of the
anesthesia.

Hi Becki67, is today your surgery? How
did it go? I hope everything went well
for you.
