A late or delayed menstrual period could indicate either cycle irregularity or a pregnancy compromised by possible miscarriage. Only a pregnancy test can solve the dilemma. If the test is negative as in your case, there is no pregnancy but you are probably experiencing cycle irregularity. Various disturbances in the axis of the hormonal system of the hypothalamus-pituitary-ovaries can cause cycle irregularities that usually manifest with lack of ovulation, a delayed menstrual period or spotting. These delayed periods usually differ from real periods. If the bleeding is severe or lasts for more than 7 days, you can consult your gynecologist. Organic reasons for irregular periods such as tumors or infections should also be considered by the gynecologist. It is not too likely that sex has anything to do with this bleeding.
