Over 40 Pill Usage
Posted: 05-03-04 05:25am

I juat saw my gyn last week to renew my pills(yasmine).I have had menstrual migraines the last few years and they are getting worse. He was very alarmed and said I needed to stop the pill that day and see neurologist for evaluation and to continur on the pill would be a great risk. This is new info-he had just attended a seminar on oral contraceptives a few weeks earlier and women over 40 were a huge focus. If you are over 40 please see your doc to see if it is safe to continue on the pill.I was under the impression I could stay on the pill to help transition into menopause(i do not smoke am not overweight and in good overall health) Surprised

Yes most doctors try to take their patients off of the pill in their 30's.
And when you get migraines when you are on the pill you definately need to see your doctor. One of the questions they are suppose to ask you every time you get your check up is "do you have headaches"
if they have not been asking you then that is something you are going to have to ask your doctor about. He/she should have.

Migranes are just a side effect of the pill so you should have nothing to worry about with that..

Yes, but if the pill gives you migraines then you need to switch pills. It is not healthy. And like I said one of the first things they are suppose to ask you upon checkup (which is suppose to be three months after you start a new pill) is whether or not you get headaches of any kind. And if you do, they are suppose to automatically switch your pills.
Plus the older you get the risk of stroke and heart attack relating to the pill gets higher.
