incontinent & burning urination

Sad

Over the weekend I suddenly came down with horrible back pain, burning with urination, high fever, and flu-like symptoms. I couldn't do anything about it until today when I got myself to the clinic first thing in the morning. I was told I had a severe bladder infection (duh!) and was sent home with a prescription for antibiotics. I have taken two doses so far.

The main two things that are distressing me the most are that I am in debilitating pain and I have become somewhat incontinent (I am 26, btw). I have been taking Uristat and it has not been helpful in the least. I have been taking ibuprofen also with very little relief. Is it normal for me to be sitting around in tears, doubling over from the constant pain? I have had bladder infections in the past and they have never come anywhere near to the level this one is at. The stress incontinence is also a major concern... I have had to buy Poise pads because it is so bad. I have never experienced this before and it is very troubling because I feel like I need to shower every few hours or I might be making the infection worse.

Does anyone know how long I can expect the incontinence and pain to last and what is causing the incontinence??

Did your doctor do an a scan (ultrasound or CT scan)?
It's possible you have a kidney stone or kidney infection. Bladder infections are painful but this seems to be more than a bladder infection, at least to me. I have been suffering with kidney/urological problems for over 30 years so I'm speaking from experience, if you are this uncomfortable get to an ER or call your doctor back and insist on them doing an ultrasound.
Does it hurt when you drink more fluids?
Do you feel like someone punched you in the kidney area?
Do you have blood in your urine?

As for the incontinence it can take a couple days for that to get better once the medication kicks in. I know it's embarrassing. Did you tell the doctor about the incontinence?
There is medication to help with it, it is Ditropan and there are a couple others they prescribe also.

I hope you feel better soon..Smile

No they did not do any imaging on my kidneys. I don't have health insurance so I went to Planned Parenthood. :-/ They said they found leukocytes, proteins, nitrates, and trace amounts of blood in my urine. The pain I have been in has been unreal, unlike anything I have ever experienced.

I am actually starting to feel somewhat better today, though. The pain is still bad, but it doesn't seem to get worse with fluids. I have a constant sharp pain in my back and constant dull pain in my urethra. The incontinence is still bad, but I am hoping that it will go away soon! When I told the doctor she said that it will likely resolve on its own, but to call her if it doesn't. Now it's just the waiting game to see when the antibiotics start to kick in. Thanks for your response!
