I was just diagnosed with this, and both
my gi and gp recommend taking out my
gallbladder. I've been looking around,
(and I have yet to talk to the surgeon),
and it seems there is no alternative. My
main complaint is recurring nausea, but I
do have an occasional attack of pain and
gas.
Thinking back, I think I may have had this
dating all the way back to high school,
and i'm 30 now. I'm assuming that since
it's been getting worse over the past 9
months or so, it's going to continue to,
and it's already disrupting my day-to-day
life.
So, my questions are, is there an
alternative to surgery?
Secondly, if the gallbladder is supposed
to help in the digestion of fats, and you
remove it, I would think that since you
don't have the fat-dissolving aid, you'd
need to completely abstain from fatty
foods. But i've heard most people have
no dietary restrictions after the surgery.
How can this be?
Thirdly, can anyone recommend good
websites for information on this condition
and the surgery?
Thanks a lot.

Rachel,
one site that has helped be learn a few
things is medline plus. You can look up
the surgery and the disease.
I also am a nursing student and we just
recently talked about the gallbladder in
my physiology class. The way it was
explained to me is that your bilary tube
is very stretchy and can actually store
some of the bile that your body needs.
Your liver makes the bile and so you can
still emulsify some fat. The only bad
aspect of not having a gallbladder is that
you could have a "dumping" syndrome, which
as I understand it is when you consume a
large amount of greasy foods, such as
mexican food, and your body does not have
enough bile available to emulsify it
therefore it just goes straight through
you digestive tract, causing a need to use
the restroom immediately or so I have
heard. I hope this help a little.

Gallbladder Dyskinesia Posted: 06-04-04 06:46am
I just wrote a scientific paper on the
management of gallbladder dyskinesia with
acupuncture in children. Out of 10
patients, 9 have been symptom free for at
least 2 years. Give it a try. I will
send you a copy if you want. Ifiguero@

Hi,
Been searching the web for info on this
diagnosis I received.
Considering gall bladder removal as well.
Was curious if you had your gall bladder
removed & if it helped the pain??
