curved toe nails embedded in toe Posted: 02-13-08 09:06am
my son age 9, has toe nails that curve
downward into the skin at the tip of his
toes. the nail is very thick and round in
the middle but thins out and curves into
his skin. the nail embeds its self in to
the toe. all toe nails are the affected.
he also has thick lines (almost looks like
layers on top of layers) that go across
the nail bed from the base to the downward
curve it. he does not have a fungus
infection along with this. I would like
to find out what this is caused from.
thanks

So basically what he has are ingrown
toenails? I don't know how to solve the
problem of the irregular thickness, but
you can put cotton between the skin and
the nail to train the nail to grown away
from the skin. There is also a product
called "outgrow" that will soften the nail
and toughen the skin.
Hope that helps!

Hi There, My mother had a similar problem
when she was young. If the problem does
not correct itself, the simplest thing to
do is have the toenail permanently
removed. It's a simple, out-patient
procedure and it will spare him years of
pain and infection. Once the toe heals,
it is very hard to notice that the toenail
is missing. So there is little aesthetic
loss. It might be a good idea to talk to
your doctor about this option. Good luck!
