switching type of birth control Posted: 02-14-08 00:15am
Hi, I'm looking for advice on a long term,
highly effective method of birth control.
Basically, I'm 19, in serious monogamous
relationship and plan on going to med
school so I'm not looking for any children
any time soon. I've been on the pill since
I was 16, but since then I've had
pregnancy (and I aborted for personal and
medical reasons; the father is on
accutane) and even now, I'm having random
breakthrough bleeding after using it for 3
years.
I've read about IUD's. I think the copper
one is out of the question, because I'm
already have 7 day periods and don't want
to risk increasing that. I've looked into
hormonal ones but I thought I'd come here
for a second opinion. I don't want kids
for at least 5 years, up to 12, so I'm
looking for a long term solution. The pill
isn't cutting it for me anymore since I
don't want to take any chances with
missing one or getting sick (needing
antibiotics and reducing the
effectiveness). Anyone have any
suggestions or any experience with one?

i dont have one but have concidered it. I
do believe you have to meet certain
requirement like age or number of
children. I dont know if they give it to
teens, I know you are saying you are in
serious monagomous relationship and that
is one of the requirements but I dont know
if they would let you get one at 19. ask
your doctor about it and other options.
