Menstrual problems & the birth control pill Posted: 02-15-08 08:39am
In November of 2007, i gave birth to a
baby boy, in december at my 6 week
checkup, i had an IUD inserted, by
january, i had to have the IUD surgically
removed because the IUD was no longer in
my uterus, they also removed my gall
bladder due to stones. After the surgery i
was put on the birth control pill, i had a
period the beginning of february, and now
all of a sudden im having another one, i
havent missed a day with the pill. Just
looking for some explainations and answers
to why??

It is not normal to experience two
menstrual periods within 2 weeks and is
considered irregular bleeding. Irregular
bleeding can be either organic or
functional in nature. Organic vaginal
bleeding can be due to conditions such as
the presence of tumors (benign or
malignant), infections, injuries etc.
Functional bleeding from the vagina is
frequently due to a hormonal disturbance
in the endocrine axis of the
hypothalamus-pituitary-ovaries. Such
hormonal disturbances can happen while
taking birth control pills. This side
effect usually occurs when a woman begins
birth control pills until the body can
adapt to the hormones contained in the BC
pill.
