birth control after morning after pill Posted: 02-15-08 15:37pm
Last month my boyfirend fingered me, there
is a small chance that there could have
been some precum on his hand while he was
doing this, it gave me the impression that
i might be pregnant so the next day
(around 28 hours afterwards) i took the
morning after pill (Levonelle).
So a couple of days after i took it i
started to get a brown discharge and
because i was off for study leave i went
up to the local family planing clinic and
the doctor there told me that it was
normal to get that sort of thing, she gave
me a pack of "Microgynon 30" birth control
pills and told me t take them when i
started my next period.
So that was ok until the next day where i
started to bleed red blood from my vagina,
i booked an appointment with my GP and he
told me that the bleed meant that the pill
had worked and that i wasn't pregnant he
also said that i could start taking my
birth control pills immediatly.
So i started the pills on a Thursday, and
now i have finished my 21 acive pills, i
am waiting for my withdrawal bleed and
took my last pill yesterday, these are my
questions:
1- would any of the above factors make me
NOT have a withdrawal bleed?
2- when is the soonest during my pill free
week that i could do a pregnancy test to
get completley accurate results?
3- was what my doctor said about the
bleeding meaning i wasn't pregnant true?

1- The fact that you just started your
first pack of birth control means there is
a possibility you will not bleed. Your
period can still be irregular during the
first three months of taking the pill.
Also, the pill lightens your period and
for some girls it seems to almost stop and
sometimes skip months. This is completely
normal.
2. If you don't have withdrawal bleeding
and are paranoid about pregnancy, you
should take a test just to ease your mind.
Pregnancy tests are accurate 14 days
after your last act of unprotected sex.
3. Yes, it is. Women who bleed are
typically not pregnant, especially if it
was a normal period with red blood.

Thank you, that was very helpful
Just have to wait to see what happens then
i guess:)
i'm hoping for the best but i HAVE heard
thats its possibl to not get a withdrawal
bleed or have an irregular one every
month:)
do you think that because i started this
pill on the bleeding induced by the
morning after pill that it would have
become effective stright away? or after 7
days?

I want to say that it would be effective
right away since Plan B prevents ovulation
and you ended up bleeding, thus expelling
the tissue that a fertilized egg would
implant in, but I'm not 100% positive on
this. However, a test would be accurate
by now if you are still worried (although
I think you really don't have too much to
worry about). Also, withdrawal bleeding
from the birth control pill doesn't start
the day you stop taking your active pills.
For most girls, it is 3 or 4 days after
that.

Ok
Today i started what i thought was my
withdrawal bleed
is it meant to be pretty light?
its much lighter than the period before my
pill taking and its a brown colour
is this normal or could it indicate a
possible pregnancy (given the above
circumstances)

Birth control pills can lighten your
period significantly because the low dose
of hormones. Some people go on birth
control just because of that side effect.
It's pretty normal. If you are still
worried, take a test just to ease your
mind. It'd be accurate by now, but
chances are 99% you aren't pregnant. Most
pregnant women don't bleed.
