BC that doesn't cause weight gain Posted: 02-15-08 21:09pm
I'm not normally one to post on these
things but on Monday I'm going to talk to
my dr. about birth control. After my first
child I was on Ortho-Tri-Cyclen, after
that broke me out they put me on Alesse. I
got pregnant on Alesse and after child # 2
I got on the Depo provera. I gained 70 lbs
while on the shot and after trying to
loose the weight for 3 years I'm finally
down 50 lbs with 30 to go. I didn't take
any birth control the last 3 years and I
am trying to find a birth control that
will work best for me.
I have acne, periods that are abnormal and
I want a BC that will not make me gain ANY
weight. infact if it helps me loose that
would be GREAT. I was thinking about an
IUD but I have heard really bad things
about them. Also I'm to scared to get my
tubes tied because I could always change
my mind about another child later on.
Does anyone have or had the same problems
as I do and if so what do you take?

No form of birth control is known to
reduce weight, sorry :/
The IUD is absolutely wonderful! I don't
have one, but believe me the horror
stories are dated and completely
inapplicable to the modern IUD It is very safe and
effective.

I saw a post about 14 days ago that said
Mirena had some really bad side effects
such as bleeding and depression but as
far as the horror stories goes the last
one I read about was in 2003.
Are there other types of IUD's that
wouldn't cause the depression?
Would IUD or a Pill be better with my
history. I know i have to ask the dr. most
of these questions but the last time I
trusted the dr with my body I gained 70
lbs and wasn't to happy.

Those are rare cases, again the normal
woman will not experience that.
If depression is linked to hormones then
yes, there is an IUD completely hormone
free called the copper coil IUD.
If hormones are causing your depression
then I would not advise using any more
birth control with hormones in it -
However I am not your doctor and you
should really ask them, first. They didn't
tell you that Depo causes weight gain?
That's a very commonly known side effect.
