Can nerve damage cause seizures ? Posted: 02-16-08 10:31am
Can nerve damage in left shoulder, causing
paresthesia of left arm & hand, trigger a
seizure? If the arm is repeatedly
"punched," could moderate to severe nerve
damage occur resulting in a seizure?
Current medical status: Healthy 23 yo male
experienced seizure after 4 days of left
arm paresthesia and left hand continuous
throbbing. Total of 3 seizures in less
than 24 hours. Head CT negative; chemistry
& hematology negative; ECG normal. MRI
results pending along with labs for
autoimmune diseases/syndrome. Current dx
is partial seizure.
Current medical treatment: Depakote 1000mg
BID and Keppra 500mg TID
Nerve damage can cause paresthesia
(tingling), pain, fasciculations, muscle
weakness etc. but can’t trigger a
seizure. Seizures are provoked only by
brain damage.
