I Didn't Think I Could Get Pregnant Because... A POLL

What are some of the things you didn't
know about getting pregnant?
For example, here are some things I've
heard people say:
I didn't think I could get pregnant in the
first year after my period started....
I didn't think I could get pregnant the
first time I had sex...
etc., etc.
Besides writing down things you mistakenly
believed, also please include things
you've heard other people say about this.
Thanks!

I had always thought that you couldn't get
pregnant during your period. It shocked
the crap out of me a few years ago when I
found out that it's actually possible.

I don't think I ever had any
misconceptions (no pun intended) about
pregnancy but when I was pregnant with my
son I remember wondering whether he could
hear my thoughts! LOL!!! For a split
second I believed he could and then I
thought, "What the bloody hell am I ON?"

well, apparently *I* can't get pregnant
while on my period (or else my ex is
sterile) or
my body is just that good at keeping on
schedule, lol.
but other than that, I pretty much knew
you could get pregnant from just about
anything. and I did hear the one on the
girl thought she was pregnant because she
swallowed it. I knew right away that was
impossible.

Speaking of the birds and the bees...
When my mom was a little girl, she asked
her mom (my Grammie) where babies come
from. My Grammie told her "a slit in your
legs". So my mom looked all over her legs
and her thighs to see where this "slit"
was. Also, my Grammie told her babies were
made with a seed from the woman and a seed
from the man. So my mom thought when a
woman wanted to have a baby, she took 2
seeds from the medicine cabinet and she
would get pregnant. Needless to say, my
grammie is a little prude.

totally not pregnancy related but when i
was little i believed that if you
swallowed watermelon seeds then a
watermelon could and would grow in your
stomach. actually, i'm pretty sure my mom
told me that one. i guess she was tired
of me eating the seeds...

I thought they had to cut the baby out
when I was a little kid. (I didn't know
about C-sections, or that they would
become so common.)
