Well, it looks like it's here in full
force. I was fine for a little while and
then I slowly started feeling down. In the
last two days though, I have just wanted
to cry non-stop for no reason. I just feel
horrible right now. I called my lovely doc
today and of course they didn't call me
back. I was wondering if any of you guys
have been on anti-depressants while
breastfeeding and which ones your doctors
said was safe. I am hoping wellbutrin xl
is a safe one. I have some left from the
last time I took them. I don't want to do
anything until I talk to my doctor though.
That is if they ever call me back.

I don't want to give you advice on what
medication to take (because I don't know
what would be safe for breastfeeding) but
I want to give you (((hugs))). Being a mom
is a hard time in our lives - so many new
expectations are laid on our shoulders.
That doesn't include all those wacky
hormones on top of it!
Be gentle to you and I hope you find some
comfort soon.

Thanks Ingi! I'm going to get a nice back
and foot massage from my hubby here soon.
I thought I was doing good but it just hit
all of a sudden. It doesn't help that I've
had problems with depression in the past.
I was so afraid of this happening. Thanks
so much again for your support.

Careful of the ones that give you
insomnia... Those might just be the ones
linked to anxiety like i had, but i took
them, and got a serious case of insomnia,
and was a basket case for WEEKS... Hope
you feel better soon. I know how it feels,
and it's no fun

I'm sorry you're going through this, I
know how you feel. I also suffered from
PPD after my daughter was born. It took me
a while to finally admit that I needed to
do something about it. I finally went to
the Dr. when she was 8 weeks old and got
prescribed Effexor XR. Talk about a life
saver!!!! It completely saved me. I'd
taken it before in the past as well (which
is why they prescribed me the same thing).
However, I wasn't breastfeeding so I'm not
sure about that. I hope you get the help
you need. I promise there is a light at
the end of the tunnel!!!

Oh man Stef. I'm really sorry.
I had slight PPD after Oni and was put on
Lexapro. BUT, I wasn't breastfeeding AND I
quit after only 4 weeks of taking it. It
made me sweat like a PIG!!!! GROSSSS!!
It's strange that you're feeling down. As
breastfeeding is SUPPOSED to release the
feel good hormones to prevent PPD.
BUT, we all know that SUPPOSED TO, means
probably won't! LMAO!!
I got your IM...hit me up whenever you get
back on!!

I've had depression problems in the past
also and I was so worried about PPD. I
wanted so bad to be able to breastfeed and
not be on antidepressants. I found myself
crying inconsollably at times also. It is
a HARD time in the beginning. You get no
sleep and the constant worrying and just
the non-stop vigilance you have to have
with a newborn are all things that can
make you feel crazy. It's a lot more
normal than you think, especially if you
are a mother who is very sensitive to your
child and worries about them a lot. Don't
assume right off the bat that you are
depressed. Talk to the doctor. It may
pass as you get into more of a pattern and
with more support from people around you.
Make SURE people around you know how you
feel and what you are worried about so
they can keep an eye on you and make sure
you don't get worse. Tell them they need
to help you through this and remind them
how little sleep you get and how much work
it is. Sometimes people need to be told,
and if they love you, they will understand
and help you out. I think that a back and
foot massage are a great idea, but your
husband can do a million other things to
take some of the burden off you.
Breastfeeding is hard but worth it in the
end. It does get better once the two of
you figure it all out. I'm not saying you
don't have PPD, I'm just saying that the
feelings you described are normal for this
time in your life. Your hormones are
still adjusting from your pregnancy on top
of all the other stressors and they will
take a while to get back to "normal" (if
you can ever say that about female
hormones.) If you start having
compulsions to hurt yourself or the baby,
then of course, that is definitely PPD and
some meds would probably be a good idea.

My friend was on and is still on anti
depressants while breastfeeding. Her dr.
recommended she cut the pills in half ...i
guess she really had a bad case...PDD
needs to be treated in some way. Do talk
to your dr.

Well, I talked to my doctor today. I've
had depression issues in the past so I
know that's what this is. I've always had
a tendency to be depressed though. I'm
getting plenty of sleep actually. Brina
has been sleeping through the night from
about 12 until 6 for about a week or so
now and me an her nap together during the
day. I just got bad all at once. I want to
cry for no reason and just can't make
myself stop. I don't really have a reason
for the crying either. My doctor put me on
Lexapro. Hopefully, I won't get any of the
side effects though.

I'm glad your doctor took you seriously
right away. That is such a help! I hope
you start feeling better soon.
