I was asked by Janine (redsoxgirl) to send you a message to let you know she was having her bivad surgery today. She wanted to send it to you herself, but she was not given time to use her computer. The surgery is completed. She had surgical complications, but right now is stable. I want to thank you personally for all the friendship and prayers you give to her. She always talks about you. She may be able to write you tommarrow. If her condition worsens, I will let you know. If she stays stable and is able, I know she will want to write you herself.

Thank You,
Jonathan

Thank you for your prayers. Just wanted to let you know she finally woke up for about ten minutes. She is so out of it.
Surgeries are not easy for her. Always some kind of problem. Again, thank you for your prayers. Jonathan

Just wanted to send you a message to let you know how Janine is doing. She was up for a while, but is in alot of pain and very tired. I told her you said hello and were praying for her. She was happy and thanks you for your prayers. She was concerned how you were. She has a long road ahead of her. The surgery really is hard on her. She still is critical. Her first words when she got up this morning were how the sox were doing. Then asked how Luciana and I are doing. The movie Fever Pitch is exactly what she is like. She tells me you and her talk baseball. She
is so funny. She cannot wait to write to you. Have a Good Day Jonathan

An afternoon update on Janine. She slept most of the day, and when she is up very miserable. She says the device is uncomfortable she can feel it. They are cleaning her incisions now , and I know she is not a happy person right now. I told her you are now a sox fan. She said another Yankee fan bites the dust. She said to tell you hello and again hopes you are doing ok. Yes I am very lucky to have her. She is a very kind hearted girl. She is especially a great mother. She hopes she can write tommarrow. If she cannot, i will write again. You have become an important friend to her as well. Take Care Jonathan

good morning. how are you? sorry i did not write back yesterday, but it was a bad day for me. i hope you are ok and not just saying you are. everyone is important not just me. how is carol.? jonathan is ok. he went to work today, because i told him to. i figured it would be good to keep himself occupied instead of sitting here all day. i do miss luciana very much. the cardio said she can come tommarrow and the surgeon said to wait until tommarrow and see how i am. i do not know if i am crazy but i can feel the device when i move. is it possible? i feel strange telling them that. my vitals on the monitors do not look that great. how long before the bivad works? i am still in bed. i thought they would get me up in a chair. no matter where i am it is uncomfortable. did your grandchildren come? i hope so. jonathan brought me luciana's easter pictures she is so beutiful! she is being very fussy with him. he said she has been a handful these past couple days. how was lenten service on wednesday? i am still praying for your stem cells and you also. looking forward to hearing from you. janine

Good morning to you,
Great to hear from you. Please don't worry about writing me if you can,t. Your recovery is more important. And yes I am ok today. My chest hurt most of the day because I lifted something too heavy. Dumb huh? Carol's decorating the Easter cross at the church. Other ladies are helping. Good idea sending Jonathan to work. It will help him greatly. Remember I told you how I send Carol off when I'm in the hosp. Good for both of us. Hope you get to see Luciana tomorrow if possible. It would be so nice.
I'm confused. Did they implant the device partially in your body or did they implant it completely? Either way it is an extremely foriegn object to your body and it would like to get rid of it. As time goes on it will adjust and it will be somewhat more comfortable than now. And about that monitor. How about a picture Of Luciana over the screen or close to it? That might help keep you from being a worry wart over your vitals. You do know the nurses have the info at all times down at the station? Maybe one of Luciana's Easter pics.
No grandchildren this week. They had the bug .I miss them. The bosox are in Japan. Probably hanging out at a Sushi bar. YUK! I better go now. You need your rest. Everything's good. Write when you feel like it.
God Bless

hi. lifting heavy things huh? you should know better! my cardio did tape luciana's picture on the monitor. he said to let him worry about my vital signs. he said they are not great but better than they were. i also got more pain med. he said to enjoy the good pain med today because today is the last day. tommarrow tylenol. the surgeon and him said the pain medication is very addicting. the bivad is totally implanted but how you explained it makes sense. the surgeon said my incisions look a little red so they have to be cleaned more often. i hate when they touch them. oh well it could be worse. i am sorry your grandchildren are sick and not coming. you were looking forward to it. i know my little nephew was really sick with the flu. it hit him all at once. i hear he feels better today. yeah i love jonathan but it was time for him to either go home or to work. i do not like sushi either! that is nice they went. they were not going to go i think it had something to do with their coaches. i never got the full story. i hope i can see luciana on easter. do you have or go to dinner after church on easter? my sister usually has everyone over for dinner. i ordered stuff online while i have been in the hospital for luciana's easter basket to make it easier for jonathan. she really does not know what is going on but just a couple things for her. i cannot believe i have the bivad. it is totally implanted i think the only thing external is one of the tubes in my chest that is connected i think to a pump. i have so many tubes i lost track of what is for what. i know it takes time. the cross carol is decorating must be beautiful i love when the churches are decorated for holidays. what heavy object are you lifting today? i am curious to know. i am gonna go i am getting tired. looking forward to hearing from you. janine

Hi,
I know I was a bad boy. I won't be doing that for a while. I think that putting Luciana's picture on the monitor is a good idea. Everytime you look at it she can be your life and breath. No numbers needed. If thy are taking you off the pain med. your evidently making some progress. That bivad you have actually kinda hangs in your chest wall and moves everytime you do. That's your bridge to the future. I'm sure you will make it work. Next the heart. Hope you don't get too attached to the bivad. How are the vitals looking?
I will miss the family for Easter. It's suppose to be a beautiful day,75 degrees and sunny. I guess i'll finish some mixed planters . That I love to do. Maybe someone will bring you some food tomorrow. I need to go. I'll write later. Everything's good.
God bless and have a nice Easter,

happy easter! i feel bad you will not see your family. you and carol can have a great easter. make the best of it. just be careful with the planters. when do you start school again? i did not write because i was taken back to surgery. the sutures for the left and right vent the right vent sutures needed to be restitched. thank god for pain medication. my family except for jonathan was told by the surgeon to stay home today. i will not see luciana because she will want me to hold her and i cannot. that makes sense. i am a little sad but it is for the best. cannot see my vital signs remember? the cardio put pictures on anything with numbers. you are right about luciana .. the heck with numbers she is the encouragement i need. i am in so much pain. i hope besides when i get my new heart this is the last surgery. please write me if you have time. i know it is a holiday if you have time. i want to hear how you are feeling and how your day is. funny we both cannot see our families. we are stuck with jonathan and carol ha ha wish carol a happy easter for me. will say a special easter prayer for you and also the stem cells. i thought i would be up and walking by now. i probably forgot how to walk.ha ha i am going to go now. need my heart pillow chest is really hurting me. cannot wait to hear from you. enjoy your easter mass. janine

Hi and Happy Easter to you,
Thanks for the thoughts about our being alone. We are having dinner with some friends. Looking forward to it. I wish it would be Italian food but I'll get by. Start school on Tues.
Wow I bet having to go back to surgery scared you a little. You know that having your heart transplant surgery might be easier on you than having the bivad implanted . Very possible. Also do you know what the make of the bivad was? I really only know of one that is fully implanted in the body. By the way it is more in your abdomen than in your chest. If you can and feel like it see if you can find out which bivad you got. Maybe a Heartmate II. I'm sure that your doctor's want you to heal as quickly as possible thats why no visitors Concentrate on getting rid of that pain. Most of it will go away. I'm so sorry it bothers you so much. Do you see your trans surgeon much? I'm sure he is keeping a close eye on you. Tell your trans cardio thanks for putting the photos over the monitor screen Maybe watch a game today? Hold on to that pillow.
I better go. Dinner's calling. I'll write later.Get some rest. Everything's good.
God Bless

good afternoon. hope you are enjoying your easter. i am glad your friend invited you over for dinner. kind of gets your mind off your grandkids an children no being able to come. would you be jelous if i told you jonathan brought me lasagna and pasta fasula! i only ate some was delicious. my stomach is still upset. i did enjoy what i was able to eat. i am so tired. i have a heartmate II. I am confused i cannot see because of all the bandages i think it is totally implanted except for the one tube in my chest conected to something. iplease help me i feel silly again if i ask that question. is some of it external? i have so many tubes and ivs and monitors i am totally lost what is for what. please help me. yes i am afraid. i will admit that to you. no one else. the surgeon said he was originally going to use a thoratec but changed his mind. somehow i think you are right the transplant may be easier. the surgeon is in alot since my surgeries. he said i have a low grade fever. he cleaned my incisions himself today. he ordered an ekg. he listened to my heart alot. is that good or bad? he scares me. luciana loves the one stuffed animal i got for her. jonathan gave her a picture of me . he said she will not put it down. that makes me feel better. she has not forgotton about me. tell me about your day. how are you feeling? is your chest still hurting? how was church? i am going to go now . i need my heart pillow. looking forward to hearing from you. sox won today! thought you would like to know since you are their newest fan! take care janine

Good evening to you,
Our dinner was enjoyable. Gosh, all that Italian food. Bet it was good. Be care ful about what you eat . You don't want to have to vomit feeling the way you do. It would't be nice. Most likely the Heartmate II is a completely implanted device. This bivad is very popular and very dependable. The tube you see is most likely for drainage. There should be a wirealso, running to a battery pack. They don't use Eveready, a funny Ha; The trans doctors are most likely listening for any leaks around the grafts. You have three grafts. One to each ventricle and one to the aorta. Don't want any leaks. Sounds like they are doing what needs to be done. Very importantly, do not be afraid to holler for anything you might need. Your caretakers have, most likely been thru this before. Your probably not hollering enough. Your fever is not unusual after surgery. I kinda think your starting to heal.
I have a little fluid on me. I usually weight about 150lbs. but I'm at 154 right now. hope lasix starts working I'm planning a trip to Albany this summer. I'll let you know as my plans progress. Better go now, and I mean go, love Lasix. I'll write later. Grab that pillow. Everything's good.
God Bless

hi. i just woke up. they gave me some strong medicine. you better be careful with the extra fluid. sometimes it is from eating too much salt. and also lifting heavy items. please be careful. i know what you mean about the lasix. i just wanted to say hi. i am glad you had a nice easter. jonathan wished you a happy easter. i am not feeling well. i will write more tommarrow. just wanted to say hi and yell at you. ha ha the joke about the battery is funny i laughed. thank you for the advice about the bivad. please take care of yourself. looking forward to hearing from you. janine redsoxgirl

Good morning,
Hope your feeling better this morning. Tell Jonathan hello. Maybe you will get to see Luciana today. Hope so. Has the trans cardio talked to you today? Why don't you ask him how things are looking. Ask him if everything your going thru is normal. Most probably is,but ask anyway. It will make you feel better. Have you seen the trans surgion? I was wrong you had four grafts not three. He will be listening for a few days.
Sooner or later you will have to get your mind off your hosp. stay. You will probably need alot of mind activity to keep you going. You'll figure it out. Maybe a degree in something. Anything will work. And baseball season is soon upon us. Go Bosox. I forgot also, you might have two battery packs.
Feeling better today. Not floating anymore. Will take it easy. My stem cells need to get in my heart. I'm still waiting for a call. Sooner or later. I am still worried about my mech. valve. I better go .Gotta get the day started. We'll talk later. Everything's good.
God Bless,
Jerry jrod
