I know they said something about birth control pills (ortho tri cyclin) not being effective until you've taken them for a month, but arent they really effective after the first week??

technically they're effective after the first week if you start on a sunday, but a lot of doctors will tell you to wait 2 weeks or even a month just to be on the safe side. But if you start on the first day of your period, they're effective immediately.

THIS IS HOW IT WORKS:

IF you start during your period you are safe IMMEDIATELY.

If you start ANY other time, you are safe after ONE WEEK.

The one week waiting time only applies to the FIRST month. After that you never have to wait again as long as you alway start the pills on time.

And yes, you ARE safe during the placebo week, and NO, you don't have to take those pills.
