blood and discharge with mucus during bowel movement Posted: 02-25-08 21:27pm
I am extremely embarrassed about
this......I cannot remember the last time
I went to the toilet properly. It's just
blood, discharge & mucus.
The blood is bright red & there is lots of
it. I 'go' approximately 6 times a day &
the toilet bowel is always bright red from
all the blood. I just get a sudden urge to
go. There is not a solid stool. I wouldn't
describe it as diarrhoa but more like a
mucus. I havent a solid stool since this
began approx 3months ago.
I gave birth (normal delivery) 4months
ago.
I did have piles & rectal bleeding &
discharge during pregnancy but not to this
degree. I did visit my doctor then who
prescribed anusol.
I eat a healthy well balanced diet with
plenty of fibre.
There is no pain at all but the amount of
blood scares me.
I had a colposcopy approx 4 years ago when
suffering with horrendous abdominal pains
but everything was normal.
I do not have any pain at all now though.
I am 24 years old.
I cannot even break wind as I nearly
always have to change my underwear after
due to blood & discharge escaping.
Please help! Many thanks.

Stools that show signs of mucus or blood
may indicate a medical problem. Bright red
blood usually occurs from bleeding near
the rectum.
Do you have difficult and painful bowel
movements?
Do you feel pain, itching, burning, or
throbbing in your anal area?
Do you still have pains resulting from
abdominal cramping?

Thank u for replying.
There is no pain or difficulty during
bowel movement.
No pain, no itching, no burning, no
throbbing from anal area.
I have no abdominal pains at all now &
havent had any pains or cramps since
before I became pregnant.

Mucus and blood often appear in the stool
if the lining of the colon and rectum is
damaged. That can be caused by
inflammatory reaction like in case of
ulcerative colitis (inflammatory bowel
disease). If the damage is most severe in
rectal area, one of the main symptom is
frequent diarrhea.
Also, frequent bowel movements can provoke
relapsed hemorrhoids. Hemorrhoids when are
inner don't cause pain, but are producing
a lot of blood.
Have you lost your appetite?
Do you feel fatigue?
Have you noticed some skin lesions, too?

I don't want to alarm you but I had
similar symptoms last year and I had a
malignant polyp in my bowel so I would
really advise you to get this looked at.
It may just be somthing like irritable
bowel or internal hemmaroids but please
get it looked at.

Get it checked. It might be something
harmless, but you need to get it checked..

Thank u so much for the responses. I
visited my doctor yesterday &
apparently, from the last colposcopy that
I had in 2004, I was diagnosed with
colitis, but it was never treated, I wasnt
aware of that it was colitis & there
is no reason noted down as to why I have
it, eg, ulcerative colitis. My doctor has
refered me to a different hospital &
specialist than the one I went to last
time for another check up. Not nice, I
know, but it has to be done. I am just
waiting for my appointment to come
through. In the meantime, my doctor has
given me a 5 week dose of steroids to calm
the current flare up I have.
Thanks again for the response. It is
wonderful to beable to 'talk' to others
without feeling awkward, so thank u. I
will definately keep u informed of the
outcome.

Have you finished your steroid treatment?
How do you feel know?
Are you experiencing rectal pain and
urgency to have a bowel movement?
Do you sometimes have painful, but,
ineffective bowel movements?

This is in regards to my mom and well she
has colitis but is worried now cause for
the past 3mos she has been having frequent
BM's with blood mucus and she is terrified
that it could be cancer. Last colonoscopy
was 3yrs ago. Doctor's have tried her a
lot of different medications and none
work. Well some make her sicker than she
was or just don't help at all. Could this
really be a sign of her biggest fear?
