Ok. I was wondering somethings...

If you dont know you're pregnant and you have medication to take in like say the first 7 weeks of your pregnancy, and dont find out until later that you actually are pregnant, how much will this affect the growing fetus?

Im not pregnant but im curious to know about this. Question

Hi pips,

i guess it realy depends on wht type of medication it is you need to take. Some things don't effect the fetus, and other things can be so severe it can cause you to either lose the baby or result in serious birth defects. Some anti depressants are ok, others are not advisable. Antibiotics are a touchy one aswell. You must talk to your doctor if you think you are pregnant and need to take medication. The doc is the only one who can advise you on what you can take.

Good luck.

Folic Acid
Hi,
like others have said, it completely depends on what type of medication a person is on, why and how much. I have to be on a medication for a medical condition so this was something I was really worried about when I was pregnant. However, as is advised to many women, it is smart to take a folic acid supplement everyday. Many doctors recommend it for all women in child bearing years as it helps protect against neuro-developmental problems in fetuses in general. Because I was on a medication I was told to take 2mg a day, but for the average person. 0.4mg supplements are recommended. Talk to your doctor or pharmasist for more information. One thing that can really do damage to a fetus though is alcohol and I don't know that folic acid protects against that. Hope this has helped.
