I have had these cyst come back now six
times. The first time was 2003 after rough
sex and I had it drained at the gyn. After
a long period of no problems, the next few
times occurred between 2006-2007. I self
treated. It would get to the point that
the pain from the cyst was so unbearable
that I would rather sit in a steaming hot
bath that was a bit too hot, all day if
necessary, until it burst. Once it popped
it was fine. Pain gone. After a period of
celibacy I started having sex again in the
past three weeks and it is back again.
Again I think it has to do with vigorous
sex but I am terrified to have sex at all
that it might bring it back. Is there any
way to get rid of this once and for all?

I wanted to write a post on bartholins
cysts that has a happy ending(so far). I
had a cyst for about 6 years varying in
size, anywhere from the size of a peanut
m&m to the more recent size of a golf
ball. It was only infected once while I
was vacationing in europe. Many days in
bathing suit and lots of bike riding. It
was extremely painful and very swollen and
red. I tried antibiotics but they didn't
work. I had to have it lanced, in a shady
facility in europe with no pain
medication. worst pain of my life.
Within 6 months of the lancing it was back
with a vegeance and continued to grow. My
doc at the time who I had been with for
about 4 years advised against doing
anything unless it got infected again.
All the while I had been reading posts on
various boards and was becoming extremely
depressed as it seemed nothing would ever
work. I could not be sexually intimate, I
was too mortified of what I looked like
down there. I didn't felt like my
sexuality was gone. It was a bad time in
my life. Finally it got so big my doc
decided I should have a word catheter put
in. I really didn't want it but felt like
my doc knew what was best. It fell out 2
days after it was in, while it was in
though it was extremely painful and
uncomfortable. I went back to the doc as
I was about to head on another vacation
and she basically said there's nothing we
can do you just have to see what happens.
went away and was fine but the cyst was
back. I finally got the courage to try
and find a new doctor. After a few I
found a great one who actually referred me
to someone specializing in pelvic
surgeries. I had it in my mind that I was
just going to get the gland removed as
there were so many horror stories about
marsups. Well the doctor, who was
excellent, strongly advised against it.
He did say a marup only was 60% successful
permanently but that excision was risky.
With removal there is a chance of
excessive bleeding and a hard and long
recovery time as well as a chance of nerve
damage. The 40% failure rate of a marsup
was better than the risk of excision. It
was worth it to try the marsup first. I
had the surgery 6 months ago and am fine
now. Not that it was a great experience,
I was bleeding and had discharge for about
3 weeks, but after a month I was ok. I do
have a small shallow hole to keep the
gland from getting clogged again as well
as a small bump from scarring but you
really have to dig around down there to
see it. I am currently sexually intimate
with my boyfriend and he has no idea
anything is different down there and I
have no pain. I am very happy with the
results, a huge weight has lifted off of
me. who knows, the cyst may come back and
then gland removal may be an option but I
wanted to share that marsup can be
successful if you have a good doc. Mine
was very careful to make the incision
inside where it is not visible. I will
go back to the doc that referred me to the
surgeon, I think it's great that a doctor
has no problem referring you to someone
they know can do a better job. If I had
stuck with my first doc I know I would be
in a different place right now. If you
are not comfortable with your doctors
don't feel bad about trying a new one. I
know that everyone's situation is
different but wanted to let anyone
suffering that not all turn out bad. Good
luck everyone!!!!

You can take ciprofloxacin or doxiciclinum
and for the pain Ibuprofen is verry good.
I'm telling from my experience. I hope it
will help you! Oh, and very hot sitz
baths!!! as hot as you can stand.

Hot compress (very hot compress) is as
good as a very hot bath or sitz bath. Yes,
doxiciclinum is the same as doxycycline.
100 mg twice a day (once at 12 hours), 7
days. Ibuprofen or any other
anti-inflammatory drug is very important.
Hope i'll hear good news from you!

Hi. I just wanted to let you know that
there is a support group for women, like
us, suffering from bartholin cysts. They
offer support, advice and just a place to
go when you feel like you are at your
witts end!
Go to yahoo groups website and then type
in bartholincysts ( this is all one word )
into the search box.

Shocked
I am 41 years old and this is the first
time that I have ever had a bartholin
cysts. I did some research and opted to go
back to nature. Some because I have no
current health insurance, and from what I
have checked out the other options didn't
sound like anything I wanted to do or want
a ob-gyn to do either. Now what really
works is unrefined shea butter, and tea
tree oil (pure) Apply it directly by a
cotton swab or make-up pad better yet rub
it on a sanitary pad and wear it. Now a
good hot bath as hot as you can stand it
with the addition of epsom salts will
greatly help. I hope the thing never
reoccurs, so far so good. And I make sure
to take special care of my female parts
and control the candidia with in my body
now. I hope this helps someone else who
has suffered from this condition.
Especially the little girl, try this for
her first going to a doctor and being cut
could be traumatic, this method is less
evasive.

Bartholin Cysts Posted: 04-15-08 01:14am
I'm 41 years old and this is my first
b-cysts, they are horrible no pain but a
lot of itch, I checked out the medical
procedures they didn't appeal to me.
Besides I have no health insurance any way
can't afford any. But i did extensive
research and found out that unrefined shea
butter and pure tea tree oil work. Put
either of these on a pad and make sure you
soak a cotton ball or clean make up pad
disk right on the cysts it will come to a
head on its own. Be sure to sit in warm as
you can stand it epsom salts bath several
times a day. And no sexual arousal. This
may help with the little girl who has
suffered so much with this malady it is
non evasive and there doesn't have to be a
stranger looking at her. I hope this helps
others as it has me.
I just had my bartholin cyst removed last
march 2008 and had word catheter in it for
2 weeks (hosp ER costs 1,700) and have
levaquin antibiotics taken that time too.
After a month, i have sex again with my
boyfriend and theres a small lump again.
I immediately just treat it with drops of
tea tree oil, thyme and oregano in a dab
of cotton, thrice a day and it went away.
but after a month i have urinary tract
infection which is also painful.
I keep on drinking 8 glasses of water with
the antibiotic to cure this uti..and
before and after sex you should wash your
genital area with warm water..it's really
a drag but you have to do it or else there
are chances of having this infections..oh
well i dont know what to do anymore..
Im also presently taking echinacea and
fish oil pills..hope it does help
I think bartholin cyst will really recur
or have chances if you have sex..

Thanks to Cysthematic! Posted: 09-17-08 13:24pm
I've had a Bartholin cyst for about a week
now...my first, actually a pair, which is
unusual I guess.... Most of what you see
on the internet about this problem seems
to be what's gone wrong. (Including some
really horrible pictures...try to avoid
those!!!) Of course this is helpful, to
some extent, to be able to figure out what
one should do, but I found it much more
helpful to hear from someone who calmly
gives good advice, and let's us all know
that this isn't the end of the
world...only feels like it at the time. So
kudos to you, Cysthematic!
So far I'm not having much luck with the
sitz baths. Cyst seems to be pretty much
staying the same size, doesn't hurt, just
a little stinging sometimes and a feeling
of pressure when I sit. I'm also using
epsom salts in the sitz bath, and treating
with straight tea tree oil on a pantyliner
at night. Sounds to me like it's anybody's
guess when the thing will come to a
head...I plan on using some plantain on it
tonight.
Anybody have any idea how long it takes to
heal after it drains, either spontaneously
or with a doctor's help? I'm really
anxious to get back to my sex life...I
think that bothers me more than the cyst
itself!
Again, thanks to Cysthematic...I'm no
longer freaking out, just treating it and
trying to get through.

I'm glad the post could help you,
cataclism. It took my cyst just over
three weeks to disappear completely. The
draining was very gradual too. It wasn't
like it just popped and drained in one
day. The swelling slowly reduced day by
day until there was nothing left. The
cyst returned (much smaller, hardly any
pain) during my following monthly cycle,
but was gone within a week that time. I
have been cyst-free ever since. Hurray!
