Sensory disturb. in lower legs Posted: 02-28-08 22:10pm
Has anyone ever heard of these
symptoms.....History: I am an active 48
yr old RN. 3 weeks ago MRI revealed large
posteriolateral 1.1 cm extrusion of the
C4-5 disc with spinal cord compression and
compression of nerve root 6. Had all the
classic syptoms, neck & shoulder pain,
achy left arm and index finger burning. 2
1/2 weeks ago had nerve block done with
excellent relief of pain. Had second
block done 2 days ago. My neck seems to
be doing well but... these symptoms have
me worried....numbness and fatique feeling
in left leg with pins-needles feeling and
back numbness all intermittent and not
positional. THis has progressed so far
with bilateral legs affected which are now
numb all the time, tingling in feet and
fatiqued feeling, also sometimes have
fatiqued feeling in bilateral arms. What
do you think is causing this. The MD who
did the injecteion thought it was nothing
to worry about and thought maybe it was
just the nerves getting back it synch
(hope he is right). Could this be a
reaction to the steriod? Could this be
progressive disc problems that may require
surgery? Is the discomfort from a disc
fragment and could you see that on MRI?
How long before this transient event
resolves and how long so I have before the
paresis become permanent. I see the PA at
my neurosurgeons office on Tues, hopefully
he can anser all these questions. Do you
think I need to actually talk to the MD at
this time. TIt is just driving me crazy
that I dont know what is happening. Thanks
for your input.

Most likely this is myelopathy and is a
serious symptom of spinal cord
compression. Surgery may be indicated.
If you begin to lose bowel or bladder
control you are in trouble and need to
have an urgent neurosurgical evaluation.
