Just thought I would post an update for
anyone who is currently going through this
amoxicillin/mono rash. It's been 3 weeks
and the itching and the majority of the
rash is gone. It didn't start getting
better until about 2 1/2 weeks in. I
still have weird purplish blotches on my
arms and legs but I can deal with that, at
least I can sleep and I'm not too
embarrassed to be seen in public now.
Good luck to anyone who is currently
suffering this awful rash from hell.

I'm just getting started Posted: 08-23-08 21:30pm
I am 15 years old and I have had Mono for
about two weeks. Yesterday, everything was
going dandy. Then I wake up this morning
and I had this terrible rash. I took a
[hot] shower, but that didn't help. I also
tried the itch stopping cream Benadryl.
Nothing helped, so I went online and found
out it was caused by amoxicillin
[augmentin]. Early within the first week
of me having mono, I went to the hospital
at 3 am [much to my parents displeasure]
because I found it very difficult to
breathe and awoke in the night painfully
thirsty. They put me on an IV and took
some blood and gave me something which
sort of numbed the pain in my throat. The
day after that I went back to the hospital
because that morning I had tried to take
the augmentin, but proceeded to vomit
continuously for awhile. I tried a
popsicle to help, but I threw that up,
too. Thats when I found out I had mono.
Then I had to get another IV, just because
I hadn't gotten enough fluid. I left soon
after, happy that I no longer needed the
augmentin [It tastes terrible to me, but
smells like orange sherbert..]. Gradually
the pain went away and the white pus on my
tonsils rapidly went away. And now, I am
totally looking forward to going back to
school with this rash..[heavy sarcasm].
The only positive side to it [not the
rash, the mono] is the fact that I cant
take gym for a while. Of THAT I cannot
complain.
